That’s my thoughts too. Quarter sticks will blast out tree stumps

She is lucky she didn’t lose an arm.
Yes old sticks will sweat nitro,
just handling it can give you a terrible headache
much like returning to a blast zone too early.

The entire family was home at the time, but no other injuries were reported. One of the windows of the home was blown out.
and seems strange that all she had happened was: She suffered severe injuries to one of her hands, including the potential loss of several fingers. She also suffered serious injuries to her face.
seems she should have blowed up real good.

So basically most people in this part of the country have never seen them or have any expectation to ever come across any, especially in their own home. I read the article. They were probably fireworks and not 'dynamite', but who knows? You'd have to be an idiot to think they were candles. Maybe they never saw fireworks...but I'm sure a 30 year old woman has seen a candle.

Here from a fireworks website describes the "1/4 stick.":
"Quarter Sticks The original quarter sticks were similar to M80s, but were larger in size and contained 10 grams or more of flash powder."
10 grams is about 1/3 of an ounce of powder, nowhere near the blast of a 1/4 stick of dynamite. I am pretty sure this is what she had. If it were dynamite, her arm and more would have been gone, including her life.

Sort of my point. Fake news misidentified an M-80 with a 1/4 stick which a lot of people do.

You can’t make this kind of stuff up. There must be more to the story here... I'm thinking glue sniffer, huffer, or long time recreational drug user.

Quarter stick of dynamite. We called them blockbusters. Could destroy a mailbox or blow a coffee can 40 feet in the air.
The also worked when you threw them into water.

Maybe the previous owner was the naked guy in Florida who set fire to his kitchen while baking cookies on a George Foreman grill.
