Copy shortcut from Start Menu, paste on desktop, and r. clk and hit Properties, and (if running Windows 64 bit) change to "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -no-remote -p
If you are running Windows 32 bit use C:\Program Files (x86)
In Linux Ubuntu, Firefox program should be in /usr/lib/firefox
Profile should be in /home/username/mozilla/firefox (put your user name where it says username)
To add another profile, drag icon from Applications launcher (Start Menu,) to Desktop, r. clk and hit Launcher and change to firefox %u --Profilemanager and click close. Then launch and choose Create new profile.
Migration
Most important files to migrate are
cert8.db
formhistory.sqlite
key3.db
persdict.dat
places.sqlite
signons.sqlite
I have not had Firefox after what Mozilla did to Brandon Eich.
I’m running Mozilla 61.0.1 (64-bit) for Linux Mint. It’s about a damned mess. I’m not crazy about Chrome, but it is a better browser.
I stopped it updating at 53.0.3 & have retained all my add ons.
Primarily I wanted to keep FIRE FTP, which is a simple and easy FTP client that is integrated into Firefox.
That & accessing Easynews is all I use Firefox for anymore.
I switched to Waterfox, which was a fork from before Firefox moved to Quantum. The older extensions I use work fine in Waterfox.
I actually found and switched to Waterfox based on a suggestion from a fellow Freeper. I can’t remember his name, ut...thank you!
LOSE....not Loose!
Anyway, back to the program.
Me too. Firefox was better before I updated it. Now a lot of things don't work. One thing I learned is to the left of the url address there is sometimes a shield which blocks cookies that track me. If I click on it and disable it I get some functions back. You might try it. When you copy the url and use Chromium you are basically doing the same thing by allowing the cookies to track your web browsing habits. They are mostly used to find out what kind of products you're interested in so they can target the ads on web pages to what you buy.
Indeed. The equivalent of punishing one for advocating proper "coding" vs. corruption.
Then unless you think the better security is needed, try the FF esr.
I just put that browser on my phone and love it.
53.0.3 is not esr but anything before 57 should work. https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/
Thank you! Now where is that edit button? And I think there are more mistakes with my stiff fingers and aversion to proof reading. Good thing I am not a software coder. AutoHotKey scripts are about as close as I get.
Thanks for the reminder. The regular version of Firefox was trashed by them last fall. I’ve been watching the ESR updates and Mozilla published September 5 as the day that ESR would be updated (i.e. trashed) to Quantum.
The other alternative to Water Fox is Pale Moon. Anyone have any info, preference, complaints, or other suggestions as to where to go to keep those wonderful add-ons shown above working?
Regarding Brave, can you use Firefox extensions, or is an entirely different platform?
Oops again. I meant race car(!)
Same here, so do you have a suggestion other than not updating Firefox ESR? Is there a good security add-on that you recommend (currently using Adblock+ and NoScript.
No, but unless you’re highly customized, you won’t need to.
