Too many people have forgotten, and too many don't even have a clue. His quotes are right up there with other famous quote makers like Thomas Jefferson, Mark Twain and Will Rogers..

'Here's my strategy on the Cold War: We win, they lose.' - Ronald Reagan

'The most terrifying words In the English language are: I'm from the government and I'm here to help.' -Ronald Reagan

'The trouble with our liberal friends is not that they're ignorant; it's just that they know so much that isn't so.' -Ronald Reagan

'Of the four wars in my lifetime, none came about because the US. was too strong. - Ronald Reagan

'I have wondered at times about what the Ten Commandments would have looked like if Moses had run them through the U.S. Congress.. -Ronald Reagan

'The taxpayer: That's someone who works For the federal government but doesn't have to take the civil service examination' - Ronald Reagan

'Government is like a baby: An alimentary canal with a big appetite at one end and no sense of responsibility at the other' - Ronald Reagan

'The nearest thing to eternal life we will ever see on this earth is a government program.' - Ronald Reagan

'It has been said that politics is the second oldest profession. I have learned that it bears a striking resemblance to the first' - Ronald Reagan

'Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it' - Ronald Reagan

'Politics is not a bad profession If you succeed, there are many rewards; if you disgrace yourself, you can always write a book.' - Ronald Reagan

'No arsenal, or no weapon in the arsenals of the world, is as formidable as the will and moral courage of free men and women.' - Ronald Reagan

'If we ever forget that we're one nation under GOD, then we will be a nation gone under.' -Ronald Reagan

His statements are still true today.

‘’The trouble with our liberal friends is not that they’re ignorant; it’s just that they know so much that isn’t so.’ -Ronald Reagan “

The biggest problem with Reagan is that he didn’t run nor was he elected in 1976. Just think if he had:

1. We would never have been stuck with four years of that idiot Carter.

2. We would have four more years of the stronger, more fully in his prime Reagan. As much as I loved the guy, I think all of his supporters would fully admit his second term was greatly diminished. And during the last two years, his strength and abilities were obviously fading due to his medical condition.

I also wish he had gone with his gut and chosen Jack Kemp for vice president. He would have had better support and left a much stronger successor to run after his term was up.

Destroyed the Soviet Empire, led to the creation of 20 million new jobs. Best president of my lifetime.

The Great Communicator.

If only he had not given his former gubernatorial State away along with the Amnesty to his former political party.

Sadly, I wasn’t old enough to vote for Reagan in 84, I wish that I could have.

I recall seeing comedians reading some of the old notecards of one-liners that were discovered in Reagan’s desk after he had died. I can’t find the video now, but I recall Leno reading one and cracking up laughing before he could read aloud the punch line.

They all commented on how these were great jokes, and explained a bit about what made them great.

I’ve been watching Nixon speeches and interviews lately. In one he mentioned how he wants a leader that is friendly and personable on the outside, but has an iron will on the inside. Reagan definitely fits that description.

As I recall there were several, including Laxalt. But of the list of Easterners, I thought Kemp was his favorite. Of course it was a little while ago and memory does fade. Actually, ANYONE that was an actual conservative would have been better than GW.

Although I hate to admit it, there must be something in the DC air or water that causes brain rot. GW Bush I always had doubts about, but as Governor of Texas, W was a good, very strong conservative.

Then we sent him to Washington....

I know there’s a lot of hostility on this site for the Bushs. I view the Bushs as transitional figures in conservative politics. They were the best you were going to get given the tenor of the times. The elder Bush was your typical “me-too Republican” from the FDR/WWII-to-Ike-to-Nixon era. As were a majority of the run-of-the-mill Republican voters. (Think about it would you rather have had a Gore an even more sanctimonious sounding moron then Zero!) People on this site tend to project its very conservative “center-of-political-mass” on to the “center-of-political-mass” of average Republicans and thats simply not the case. That difference is much less now then it has been but its still not equivalent. There still is a huge education effort to be done, but we seem to be heading in the right direction. Only time and effort will tell.
