Must’ve been a scintillating star ;-)
The 1952 DC flap is my favorite, because it happened in my hometown just over a year before I was born.
I really like the passage from OConnells book about Hynek, where he quotes an air-traffic controller named Harry Barnes. Barnes worked at what was then Washington National Airport and is quoted as saying, The only recognizable behavior pattern which occurred to me from watching the pips [radar returns] was that they acted like a bunch of small kids out playing. It was helter-skelter, as if directed by some innate curiosity. At times they moved as a group or cluster. Other times as individuals over widely scattered areas.
