99% sure it’s Jon Kyl. I’ve known Jon for years, corresponded with him, am friends with his son whom I taught at Brophy.
Last week I asked Jon if he would be the replacement, and he said “no comment” until McTurd was buried. I asked his son the same thing, got the same response.
This tells me it’s Kyl.
Perfectly reasonable choice. He was the #4 most conservative US Senate member in 2007, very strong on taxes, defense, ardent critic of Planned Parenthood, a little squishy on the border but not like McTurd or Flakey. Not Gang of Eight.
I don’t think he’s a “Trumper,” but he would NEVER vote against an Ocare repeal to thwart Trump, or vote against Kavanaugh or Trump’s judges.
Indeed, it makes sense now why he was “selected” to shepherd Kavanaugh through the hearings. K was always gonna get confirmed (53 or 54 votes even with McTurd); it was about getting Kyl back in the swing of things in the Senate.
Kyl would STEP DOWN in 2020 so that Gov. Ducey can run for that seat. Let’s see if I’m right on this.
I am also wagering that this is exactly what is going to happen.
Sounds great Larry!
I’m trying to visualize Ducey stepping down and who would take his place.
When you say “step down” I assume you mean step aside as there is a special election for a 2 year term in 2020 after the appointment this week. Then the seat is up again in 2022 to stay in the same “Class” as when McStain was elected in 2016.
Under the circumstances, it sounds good to me. Thanks, LS
As long as its not another McCain.
From your keyboard to God’s ears.
Please, let this be so! After years of McTurd’s backstabbing, Kyl would be a major breath of fresh air and the vote is needed.
It would effectively end any notion of a McCain family dynasty. That along with your other points makes Kyle a good choice.
With that said, what are the mechanics of this. I am assuming an announcement on Tuesday and how long before a swearing in ceremony etc and when will he be in the Senate, a couple of days, a week, 2 weeks, etc etc?
Thanks in advance.
I agree With Larry that this is the scenario... not so sure about Ducey running for Senator though. I know Jon Kyl as well. He was always a reliable conservative up until the end before he stepped down I remember He did questionable things but all in all a good, safe choice. My only worry is that Kyle became a world class lobbyist since leaving the Senate. Well see.,
Interesting
Kyl all but told my brother in May that he didn't want it. This is surprising to me. Thought it would be Ducey chief/former Speaker. But not enough gravitas perhaps. So long as its not McCain detestable 2nd wife.
feelin’ better about this ping
sounds good to me.
thanx for insight
Given the fiasco that Flake turned out to be, Kyl shouldn’t have retired in 2012. Still, if it isn’t Dr. Ward, I would prefer John Shadegg.
Larry, I hope you are correct. Some of the other possibilities are not good. I would be happy with Ward but that is not going to happen.
You were right!!!
YOU WERE RIGHT
Spot on. Good call.
