An Ohio officer shot his police dog after it attacked him, leaving him with serious bite wounds, the Columbus Police Department said.
Officer Brian Carter underwent surgery at a hospital and K9 Benzi, a 3-year-old Belgian Malinois, was humanely euthanized.
Carter was correcting Benzis behavior through verbal commands at the departments K9 office Saturday morning when the dog suddenly turned on him, a Columbus Police spokesperson said in a news release.

Someone else *euthanized* the K-9
Called him a son of a bitch?
How would you know?
It's possible, not saying that's exactly what happened here since I don't know the dog or the officer and their interaction. I DO know German Shepherd traits though having had two in my lifetime.
Close cousin of GS - same traits though.
Too bad. Sad.
Wonder what went wrong.
None, because of the Blue Code of Silence.
My cousin trains war dogs and bomb sniffing dogs. He trains German Shepherds only. He had worked with Belgian Melanois before and said they will turn on you and bite. He had been bitten numerous times by that that breed while training.
Wirehaired Terrierests.
Love ‘em, got one laying beside me now.
I had one when I was little. Toughest dog pound for pound I ever saw. He could whip any dog 2X his size. Damn good squirrel dog too.
These are my girls, Isis and Petunia. I'm hoping to adopt a male White Shepherd pup to be Petunia's mate in about two weeks. If I'm able to do so, his name will be Maximillian Von Hauser!
Cop dog, ‘roid rage.
McCain’s spirit haunted the dog, betraying & turning on you one last time.
Insufficient information, yes.

The Belgian Malinois (pronounced MAL-in-wah) is a medium-size Belgian shepherd dog that at first glance resembles a German Shepherd Dog. Malinois are shorthaired, fawn-colored dogs with a black mask. They are one of four types of Belgian herding dogs, and have been shown in the U.S. as a separate breed since 1959. Originally developed in Malines, Belgium, Malinois have a great deal of stamina and truly enjoy working. They are intelligent and very active dogs that excel at many tasks. In addition to herding, they also do well with police work, search and rescue, and in performance events, such as agility. People who are not familiar with the Malinois often confuse him with the German Shepherd Dog (GSD), but there are significant differences in the body structure and temperament of the two breeds. Malinois are smaller dogs with lighter bones. They stand with their weight well on their toes, which gives them a square body profile, while today’s GSD has a long, sloping back and carries his weight flatter on his feet. Malinois are fawn-colored, red, or brown, and the tips of their hair are black, while the GSD is usually tan with a black saddle. Additionally, the Malinois has a more refined, chiseled head that the GSD and smaller, more triangular ears. Many think that the Malinois is more alert and quicker to respond than the GSD. They’re also very sensitive dogs that don’t respond well to harsh training methods.

Call him a son of a bitch.
If a non cop would have shot that dog after being torn apart by the dog’s teeth, the cops would have killed the person who shot the dog...
Just sayin’...
