Was the late Senator John McCain a Christian and a Christian leader??
A Christian leader will have certain characteristics that guide his/her actions. People may argue that the believers good character is born out of his/her walk with God and this requires knowing Gods word in order to live Gods will.
How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, nor stand in the path of sinners, nor sit in the seat of scoffers! 2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and in His law he meditates day and night. (Ps. 1:1-2)
O LORD, who may abide in Your tent? Who may dwell on Your holy hill? 2 He who walks with integrity, and works righteousness, and speaks truth in his heart. 3 He does not slander with his tongue, nor does evil to his neighbor, nor takes up a reproach against his friend. (Ps. 15:1-3)
The integrity of the upright will guide them, but the crookedness of the treacherous will destroy them. (Prov. 11:3)
In all things show yourself to be an example of good deeds, with purity in doctrine, dignified, 8 sound in speech which is beyond reproach, so that the opponent will be put to shame, having nothing bad to say about us. (Tit. 2:7-8)
A Christian leader is marked by how he/she serves and treats others. The biblical teaching is that one who wishes to lead must make himself/herself a servant to others. This requires a biblical mind and an attitude of humility.
He sure didnt act like one.
McCain snubbed President Trump, Sarah Palin and others from his funeral. Why? What ever happened to the word FORGIVENESS?
Oh sorry, John was a political maverick!
John McCain was at best a Christian in name only. He lived a lifetime of bad and immoral behavior coupled with a terrible temper and a foul mouth. There also wasn’t a humble or forgiving bone in his bitter old body. It’s very hard to believe he was ever a real Christian.
Yes but how he votes will be a reflection of his character and his adherence ( or lack thereof) to the cardinal virtues. Are his decisions prudent? Is he committed to justice, does he show fortitude when the going gets tough.
At this point what difference does it make?
He was a McCainiac. He worshipped himself.
I believe him to be a Traitor by the Constitution.
And that was just his absorption by enemy islam, never mind what came before...which was bad enough.
Not in my book, but God has the book that answers that question.
Don’t know, don’t care.
He is defined, and should be judged, by his actions. Period.
How can you ask that. He was barely American. The only religion John McCain he believed in was his own bitter self centered self.
Good Question, if he accepted the gospel, as spelled out on the Romans Road, that is between him and his maker.
As for me, do not play “My Way” at my funeral.
Only God - and now McCain himself - know...........
John McCain was a devout McCainite.
If he was, posing with ISIS was sure a funny way to express his faith.
CC
He broke the Commandment on lying day in and day out.
I wonder why anybody would care who was at his own funeral. After all, he won’t be there.
Maybe you’re just dead: nothing to worry about. Maybe you’re in Heaven: same thing, only better. Or you might be in Hell. Then you’ve got bigger problems.
I think his words and actions against Sarah Palin, a woman whose Christianity shines through brighter than the sun, are telling.
Who cares.
He’s dead
I so do not care.
Was McCain a Christian? Only John McCain and God knows for sure. God clearly knew him from the beginning of Time. The rest of us mortal sinners only knew him while he walked among us. We cannot be too sure because up to his last breath he could accept the Lord. But if we want to know with any degree of certainty, we have to observe the man’s life and ask ourselves some questions:
When did he accept Jesus Christ as his savior. If he did, did he ever testify publicly how he found Jesus and became a Christian? If he never accepted Jesus, he clearly was NOT a Christian.
Has he ever publicly acknowledged God (the father), his son Jesus (the Christ) or the Holy Spirit at any time (good or bad) during his life? Has he ever expressed his desire to be part of the New Covenant church or the return of the Messiah and the new Kingdom on earth.
Has he ever offered or allowed prayer at any of his public events. Is there any evidence he personally prays for spiritual guidance or give thanks for his blessings? After he survived his shoot down and subsequent imprisonment in the Vietnam, who did he give credit for his deliverance?
Did he ever acknowledge that all mortal men have sinned and ask forgiveness for the sins he has committed? Has he ever shown remorse or repentance or apologized to others for anything? Has he ever shown brotherly love toward his fellow man?
I could go on but I hope you get the idea. That being said, the bible says we will know them by their fruits, for a bad tree cannot bear good fruit and a a good tree cannot bear bad fruit.
Did we know John McCain well enough to judge him for all eternity? No, but God will. But we know good and bad fruit and have the evidence. That tells us what kind of a tree McCain was when he was with us. (Be nice, I don’t want any replies about crooked trees)
Since McCain no longer walks among us, he is the hands of a higher authority. So lets just bury him and move on...OK?
A Christian leader would be more concerned with a person’s soul than shredding the idea he may have been a Christian... I pray that he was right with the Lord and had accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior sometime in his life.
