First, let me say that I’m not a Catholic.

However, I remember all the good that the RCC has done over the years; orphages that did NOT abuse children, schools for the blind, deaf, and mute, institutions for the handicapped...

Were they *ALL* abusive?

Whas it *ALL* just a ruse?

And how much better is government at doing these jobs?

Have you read the article?

If someone wrote a story about what happened there, people would think it was fiction. Nobody would believe it was true.

It’s horrifying.

I read the article. Can someone tell me why these nuns killed these orphans? What was their motive? It sounds like this also occurred in Ireland. Why would these nuns do this? They’re actually, Sisters, not Nuns.

Like you, I am not a Roman Catholic.

However, for about 40 years, I have been actively involved with a charity that provides a group home for retarded adults. During its first three decades, the program was staffed by Catholic sisters.

I have never seen nor heard the faintest hint of any misconduct on their part. I have nothing but praise and admiration for their service, which was entirely honorable and selfless.

Unfortunately, the original sisters grew too old to continue in their service and there were no replacements since few Catholic women are interested in that lifestyle. Since they retired, staffing has become much more difficult and, of course, expensive.

I confess that I did not read the whole Buzzfeed article: it’s too depressing. In the past, I’d have considered the possibility that many such accusations are false “recovered memories” similar to those recounted in the phony satanic abuse cases of the 1980s. After all, many such accusers are emotionally disturbed or easily manipulated. However, the extent of such cases combined with the accusations and admissions of senior clergy are conclusive: in many cases Roman Catholic clergy have committed unspeakably horrific acts and that Roman Catholic leadership has been complicit either in the acts themselves or in their cover-up.

However, we should not lose sight of the fact that most Catholic clergy were not involved in that evil, but genuinely sought to do the Lord’s work.

I am a Catholic. I survived the Catholic schools of the 1960s. Caught quite a few beatings from those old fossils. This is entirely believable.
