Giant squids are fun to catch. You usually need a squid jig, which is studded with tiny spikes, to catch them because they tend to slip off an ordinary fish hook.

Once you’ve hooked a squid, it will fight back at you, squirting you with a jet of water. Then when you finally haul it in, it will squirt you with ink.

Big, but not monster.

Humboldt squids are that size and bigger, and absolutely terrifying.

Spikey tentacles, super aggressive, etc.

A pod of whales was spotted offshore clapping their fins and blowing water to the tune of “Happy Days Are Here Again”. Giant squids are rarely seen because of the great depths in which they live and hunt. Whales can be found with scars to prove they’re among that animal’s prey.

In that things element, it would pull you down, drown you, and use those razor sharp beaks to pull tennis ball sized chucks from your body. Skin, muscle, bones, ALL go into the beak.

Would my survival chances improve if I promised never to eat calamari, ever again?

Three are more squid in the ocean/seas than all the fish in the ocean/seas combined.

Dried out and salted...

I used to enjoy smoked/salted carp, drum, buffalo...

If properly prepared and a cold beer on a warm summer day...

And I’m a near teetotaler.

The individual suction cups of squid arms contain teeth and hooks.

A 13 foot squid is not a “monster.” Those things are known to get much bigger than that. And what is the difference between Squid and Calamari? The price and in the restaurant.

...a part of the beach only accessible by a four-wheel drive.

I doubt the squid got there by 4X4. I'll bet he couldn't even get it started.
