Looks like something to prevent the blast from going that way to me.
After that, why are they lined up like that?

There are corners visible upper left and upper right... I think that’s the barrier. It appears bent, and there’s a hole in the barrier just to the right of the Marine at the top of the line.
I know this because the photo blows up real good (right click, open image in new tab :)
They are blowing a hole THROUGh a wall or a barrier or something - that’s what the corner is. They’re going to go THROUGH when the explosion finishes.
Thats the exercises plate barrier, probably the object being breached.
