Oh, the Silver Palate - I never shopped there because I was across town although I used Zabar’s on occasion. Legendary cookbook!

I am a fan of the dirty water Sabrett, myself. Those are getting harder and harder to find because the Halal stands are taking over - sadly.

[The Nathan’s packaged hot dogs you buy in the store are made by a giant Chinese food conglomerate.]

Made in USA of American ingredients. Howard Lorber is the chairman of Nathan’s, and a big Trump supporter.

[SUPPLY AND DEMAND is key to understanding the value of Nathan’s brand. Meat is meat, but wrap it in Nathan’s packaging and tell consumers they’re buying an all-beef, all-American hot dog, and you’ve got something for which you can charge a premium. Meat brands are precious and few.

When such trademarks become available, they sell for high prices. In 2014, Hillshire Brands, which owned the Ball Park and Jimmy Dean trademarks, was sold to Tyson Foods(TSN) in a bidding war for 17 times Ebitda, or earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization, and 35 times earnings. That same year, Nathan’s license with Specialty Food Group expired. After a bidding contest, Nathan’s signed a new deal with a division of Smithfield Foods, which agreed to pay Nathan’s an extraordinary 10.8% of every dollar it earned selling Nathan’s branded hot dogs to supermarkets. This was more than double the prior licensing rate, and a standout in the otherwise mundane meat industry. Companies such as McDonald’s(MCD) and Burger King typically get only a mid-single-digit royalty rate for the right to use their name.]

Most of what little hot dog buying I ever did in recent years was Hebrew National.

I’ll have to look for Nathans. Publix is close. Maybe the newly opened Lowes Foods might. I love it. Publix is 2nd string.

What do the halal hot dog vendors use?

Grew up eating Hebrew National. Now Nathan’s are our favorite.

Just noticed that the Hebrew National Packaging has shrunk. Instead of 16 ounces, they are 12 ounces.

They make kebobs, generally. Actually, I'm guessing, I refuse to use these peddlers because they are supplanting the hot dog guys and it worries me how the city is changing.

I have noticed a profusion of kebab (and other) vendors. Come to think of it, there are fewer hot dog vendors on NYC streets. And nobody carries knishes any more.

Oh, they are totally disappearing. I keep an eye out for them. I don’t really eat them too much anymore but they represent something that I love about NYC.

Good to know.

I love garlic.

The pizza I typically get has garlic flavor crust.

Another good dog is produced by Katz’s which you can buy in bulk. A friend of mine who moved to Baltimore loads up on them when he visits NYC. Those are really delicious. So are Gray Papaya’s which you drink with a Papaya punch type drink. But they’re obnoxiously liberal.

Smithfield processes tons of pork products. Do they have a dedicated plant for kosher foods?

Most stores carry them here, Walmart is generally the best price.

Howard Lorber is the chairman of Nathan’s, and a big Trump supporter.

It's a stretch to say that buying the packaged hotdogs is showing some meaningful support to this guy. The company he works for get's a commission on the packaged hotdogs sold by another company. That's all.

Is your link a coupon or can I just walk in and buy them at this price?

Just grab the current Publix Green sheet and look for the deal and tear it out. No other coupons needed. Oh, and you don't need any member card at Publix for this deal.
