Mechanical advice needed
vanity | 9-21-2018 | chuckles

I have 2 chain saws, 3 weed eaters and 3 blowers, all 2 cycle and all need fuel lines almost every year. I buy the fuel line by the foot now. Used to just by replacement bag of lines for each brand.

There must be a better way to fix these lines so they won't rot every year or 2. FReepers are wise and chocked with info. I hope someone out there has a better way. Is there some other material that can be used.I'm even thinking of copper if I can get it small enough.

Thx

Make sure there is no ethanol in your gas.

Buy non ethanol gas.

I am not sure of the wisdom of metal fuel lines. My chemistry is too many years ago.

In the long run it is cheaper to buy ethanol free gas. That is why the gas lines are deteriorating so fast.

Change your gas to Trufuel. Sold at most hardware stores, Ace, Home Depot, Lowes.

Since I have used something similar to trufuel[premixed fuel} I have had no problems with my 2 cycles, I used to spend hours trying to start them

It’s a 45 min drive one way to get gas with no ethanol. Its about a dime higher and I have to get a fuel card from a small oil company and buy a minimum per month. I could live with about 5 gal a month, but I just don’t think it’s worth it. I’ve checked every station in my town and all have ethanol.

MY 4 cycles 2 riding mowers, and 2 generators have no problems. they use the black reinforced 1/4 lines. One of those was bought in 1997 with the original lines. The generators sit for some time only starting every couple of months with some Stabil in them.

Ethanol free gas, if you can find it.

Metal fuel lines work, but vibration and heat expansion can break them. Have to be a carefull installation with vibe damping and expansion sections (coils and such) to allow the lines to move.

Expensive, but steel braided fuel lines are the stuff, for a nice car engine installation at least.

I'm looking for someone with an oil card in the town that has the gas so maybe I can buy 5-10 gal off him. The True fuel I just looked up was $20 a gal. I use a good bit in my chainsaw and weed eaters so the 32oz things won't work at all. $20 a gal is high, but I may have to do it. I can get it locally and it would save a trip to the other town plus gas.

I was just hoping there was something somebody else knew that I didn't. I knew it was the ethanol, but surely there is another way.

Got to a model R/C hobby shop and buy silicone fuel line.

and USE NON ETHANOL FUEL!

You can’t ask for a solution and then say the resolution is too hard. Check any marine businesses they will know where to get non ethanol. Does the drive yo buy fuel take longer then the time it takes to replace and buy all the lines?

Are you using fuel line designed to be gasoline resistant?

I use genuine Tygon fuel resistant tubing without issue while still using pump gasoline.

The equipment I put away for the winter will has ethanol-free canned fuel in it (Stihl MotoMix, TruFuel, etc.).

Those Trufuel cans aren’t even a gallon. More like 3/4. You get screwed buying that
