Thanks! Good luck to you too.
Congrats to your sil!
I never heard of that diet myself.
I’m a believer in losing weight slowly in the beginning & gently adding walking into things soon as strength returns to make it happen.
Its the most important thing. (Eating from grass fed, healthy animals, pastured chicken). And this can limit your protein too, as you seek a good source for your meat, milk and eggs, so you will be limited by budget. But its worth it.
I take it every day. But I take a few things that affect dreams so mine are pretty vivid when I remember them. And usually good.
“Meat is poison if you have gout.”
I only had gout once in my life—I was 20 & my diet was 100% beer & pizza. Took me a month back on the SAD before it went away.
Best way I know to avoid gout is to eat meat & lot’s of fat with no carbs.
Really? I thought lettuce had a fair amount of insoluble fiber.
.
How does it feel to be the ignorant sore thumb of the thread?
.
So are legumes. Ive seen just as much gout in vegetarians as I have meat eaters in 3 decades of medical practice.
Its not as simple as meat diet = gout.
Genetics, plus diet, plus hydration, plus alcohol consumption and other competing metabolic waste, meds competing for metabolism and excretion is about it, I think.
I love reading all of these conflicting studies that said I should be dead already.
You do understand that gout is caused by a genetic inability to efficiently metabolize the purines in protien, which causes elevated uric acid in the bloodstream, leading to formation of crystals right? Its not something you catch and eating meat and drinking beer makes things worse, not better.
The research was conducted at the University of South Wales where a high protein diet most likely indicates barbecued steak and kangaroo burger.
I understsnd what youre saying here. However meat contains more protein than beans, so its worse if you have gout.
You ought to know.
Depends on the amount of beer you drink. It you stay under 8 beers a day yes. Cheese is also allowed eggs, bacon, steak and moose.
Yes, because when it comes to diet, there are almost NO actual clinical studies. Clinical studies control all the variables, have control groups, take years and years of constant monitoring. The studies that said fat caused heart attacks weren't clinical and they were taken as gospel on the premise that if we didn't change everything due to them and they turned out to be right, the consequences of that mistake would be too great. That's fact, it's what the guys who wrote the studies said. Yet we turned the entire American diet upside down to be focused mostly on grains based on unreliable epideiological studies. And as you point out, there are different studies that all say different things because they aren't really scientific.
My personal experience says that low carb / high fat resulted (for me) in 80 pound weight loss, pre-diabetes gone, A1C and blood sugar totally normal, perfect blood work by every metric used, borderline hyper-tension cured. But I'm supposed to believe a study that says they think somehow all that is likely to shorten my life?
I dont think it does. Lettuce might provide some nutrients to us, but for fiber, which is what the gut bugs want, cooked or raw root or cruciferous type vegetables are far, far better. I think for the dark leafies including kale and herbs, its for the content and nutrients thst we eat them.
Well, 1st off, I am not a dietician nor do I play one on TV.
I don’t drink beer. People with long histories of depression that drink alcohol ain’t too smart in my book. I have ZERO issues on this way of eating. That includes zero gout issues. I had it once. I changed my diet & it went away 30+ years ago.
Today, gout is not on my radar. :)
I doubt you ever actually had gout frankly since you clearly dont have a clue.
I agree. I have much the same back story.
It doesn’t matter how many “studies” they churn out, I do not believe they have an understanding of human dietary needs and best eating patterns.
The dietary science folks have done incalculable damage with their grain heavy and over processed pyramids, demonizing eggs then resuscitating them, the same with red meat. They gave Americans a generation of heart disease diabetes and poor health.
It is a shame more people don’t think or themselves instead of drinking from the fount of all knowledge, the diet science of the hour.
Do ya feel better now?
A medical professorial told me I had gout. They told me how to correct it with diet at the time & that’s what I did. If that doesn’t jive with your experience, let me politely assure you I do not care.
You’ve made me laugh x’s 3 already so thanks for that. Have a blessed evening.
