The un-celebrity president: Jimmy Carter shuns riches, lives modestly in his Georgia hometown

They have no chef and they cook for themselves, often together. They make their own yogurt. On this summer morning, Rosalynn mixes pancake batter and sprinkles in blueberries grown on their land. Carter cooks them on the griddle. Then he does the dishes.

I still remember his carrying his empty suitcase!
He was showing off his being independence! He wouldn’t let his Secret Service carry it for him.

“”I may have overemphasized the plight of the hostages when I was in my final year,” he says. “But I was so obsessed with them personally, and with their families, that I wanted to do anything to get them home safely, which I did.””

He did? News to the rest of the country! He should have been obsessed with the Ayotollah’s rise. We’ve been paying for that every day since.

Curious items about Jimmy Carter. The woman who was the target of the Watergate break-in, Ida “Maxie” Wells, would move to Georgia following her DNC Watergate stint to become Governor Carter’s traveling secretary for his presidential campaign. Carter brought Maxie into the White House as his Oval Office secretary.

Governor Jimmy Carter visited Washington DC twice in 1972 in the months leading up to the Watergate break-ins. Maxie was secretary for the Democratic Governor’s Association and also the director of Democratic State Chairmen. Google Gordon Liddy Maxie Wells to get his take on Maxie’s Watergate activities

Carter’s main speechwriter for his 1974-76 presidential campaign was Patrick Anderson, who was the ghost-writer for Jeb Magruder’s error rich book An American Life (John Dean’s ghost-writer was Clinton’s close pal Taylor Branch). In 1968 Anderson wrote speeches for surrogates and celebrities in the RFK campaign. One of his charges in the 1968 RFK campaign was Philip Mackin Bailley, a lawyer-pimp connected to a Madame named Heidi Rikan who many now think was linked to John Dean and Watergate. See books Secret Agenda, Silent Coup, The Strong Man and White House Call girl.

Many other links with Carter and Watergate and his very improbable rise to power.

Robert Novak wrote that Jimmy Carter was the most dishonest man he ever met in politics.

Don’t know where you see nitpicking. I’m just confirming, is all.

Personally, our best ex-president ever. Very example setting and respectful.

You need to be careful of the challenges you inadvertantly issue. Somewhere a liberal just said “Challenge accepted! Here, hold my fruit juice...”

His simple lifestyle is increasingly rare in this era of President Trump, a billionaire with gold-plated sinks in his private jet, Manhattan penthouse and Mar-a-Lago estate.

What disgusting, POS Compost writers, as usual. Hey, Sullivan and Jordan, you're writing an article about Carter's ex-president lifestyle, so why are you comparing his lifestyle to current President Trump?

Well, we know why, and you have Slick Willie and two Bushes and Obama to contrast with Carter. How do they compare? We know how they compare. Did they all forego huge speaking fees and other ways ex-presidents make money?

Pathetic, but to be expected from the Compost.

Carter has been an ex-president for 37 years, longer than anyone else in history. His simple lifestyle is increasingly rare in this era of President Trump, a billionaire with gold-plated sinks in his private jet, Manhattan penthouse and Mar-a-Lago estate....

Wait. What? I thought Trump was "broke... Bankrupt... A fraud!"

This is all so confusing.

Oh for the Carter days! I'm going to stand outside the local gas station for four hours, turn all the lights off in my house, and dream of kidnapped Americans and hijacked airplanes just to get those warm and fuzzies back. Well, warm fuzzies once I put on these two cardigans, that is.

He gave me an 11.5% rate on my first CD. Unfortunately, that was also the local unemployment rate. He is living proof that “good” and “smart” aren’t synonymous with capable. Debating his merits seems pointless given his performance. I’ll take performance any day.

Still the third most rotten president behind only Obama and Clinton, a lover of all Communist and Mohammedan tyrants, and a hater of Israel.

That said, the article is touching.

Both in their 90's and an still walk a 1/2 mile a day.

God bless him.
