Chicagos Trump International Hotel & Tower may find itself in legal hot water due to a recent lawsuit filed by Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan alleging that the buildings river-fed cooling system is in violation of multiple state and federal clean water laws.
Madigans complaint, filed Monday in Cook County Circuit Court, says that President Trumps namesake downtown tower is lacking the necessary permits to pull nearly 20 million gallons of water from the Chicago River each day and discharge a byproduct known as heated effluent back in the waterway.
The lawsuit also states the buildings owners failed to submit a mandatory study detailing the impact of their intake system as well as measures implemented to limit the number of fish killed either by its powerful suction or its heated outflowwhich can be up to 35 degrees warmer than ambient river water.
The combination luxury hotel and condo tower isnt the only building to use river water for cooling purposes, but is certainly one of the citys largest. Madigans complaint, lodged at the request of the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency, comes on the heels of a Chicago Tribune article revealing that the propertys permit had expired in 2017.

A Trump Organization spokesperson responded to Mondays complaint with a short email simply stating, We are disappointed that the Illinois Attorney General would choose to file this suit considering such items are generally handled at the administrative level. One can only conclude that this decision was motivated by politics.

Politically motivated?? The hell you say.
Chicago, Murder Capital of the World. AG focus on water regulations???
I would bet most of the downtown buildings use river water for their cooling towers.
The article implies the river *is* the “cooling tower”.
Surprise---Clinton's and the Halfrican's COS Mayor Rham Emanuel appointed her. Madigan is a first-class suckup.
Did they get a permit to install it?
Our domestic enemies KNOW they are at war against America, and all for which we stand.
It would be inconceivable that a permit was not gotten in Chicago. AG Lisa would prominently mention such a fact if it were the case, (but she didn't).
Lisa has a sordid history of frivolously suing business leaders, myself included. For me, it took almost three years and beaucoup buckerooskies to get my case dismissed through summary judgment just prior to going to trial. (The judge sat on my motion for summary judgment for almost a year, likely as a favor to the AG to make me sweat.) She knew how ridiculous the case was, but hey, my bad for thinking business in Illinois would ever be carried out on the up and up.
If the target being “Trump Tower” wasn’t enough to know its political, one only need know the condition of the Chicago River and Sanitary Canal. The Chicago Water Authority must regularly apply to the EPA for permits for “combined sewer overflows.”

The Chicago Water Authority’s own website says: Regardless of CSO activity, the Chicago Area Waterways may contain disease-causing bacteria at any time. Therefore, swimming, canoeing, or other activities where immersion in water is possible should be avoided and is not recommended, particularly during and immediately following rainfall.
In sum, the Chicago River and Sanitary Canal are effectively an open sewer - but Trump Tower taking water for cooling is an environmental threat. total hypocrites
I have a confession to make. I am now 64 and never started my own business because your experience is how I’ve seen the government since I graduated from High School. I’ve always believed that if you actually start your own business, you are asking for trouble. Best to lay low and hope they don’t notice you.
Yes, I was wrong. And I am now surrounded by friends and family that are not just doing well, but some are millionaires and one is a billionaire. And here I sit, waiting for retirement.
Part of it ticks me off, but part of it is absorbed in my belief that life is a mist and, at the end of the day, how much money you make is irrelevant. But still...
And our government is MUCH worse now. It is quite fascist and corrupt. I would never consider starting my own business now unless it couldn’t lose and was like printing money.
Lisa Madigan was put there to prevent any prosecution of her father’s corruption. She’ll stay there as long as he is Speaker of the IL House of Representatives
Government does not particularly bother small business, except through taxes and regulations. As you grow, you run into increased regulation and direct corruption, which you learn to deal with as it comes. If you are Trump, or Google, you generally have the resources, and acquired experience to deal with it. No business goes from nothing to Amazon overnight.
HOW DARE HE PRODUCE “WARM WATER”
But it is OK for California to take water away form farmers and run it down a river to “save” an 1.5 inch non resident fish?
You need to shed that attitude...
better late than NEVER.
In the mid-1960’s, when I was in 5th and 6th grades, my father worked as an electronics technician for a guy that supported the radio business for all of the large local farm in their area (eastern Washington). One day the guy went bankrupt and paid my dad through inventory. (On a side note, I still have a big box of NOS tubes from that).
My dad used the inventory to restart the business and he had instant customers. It was guaranteed to be a huge enterprise.
Except the town fathers wanted a piece of the action and made it very clear they were either in or he was out. He walked away from the whole thing and worked at Boeing the rest of his life.
Maybe that’s where I got my attitude from. It just hit me as I was typing that.
Democrats are putting a lot of their effort into taking Attorney General positions so they can abuse those.
The EPA needs to sue Illinois to restore the river to its original state that was altered in the late 1800s so Chicago could dump its sewage into the Mississippi. Instead of Lake Michigan.

For Illinois to talk about the river’s ecosystem is pure hypocrisy.
Trump should send in the Marines to save the people in sh!thole city!
I see it as worse now than ever, but it doesn’t matter.
It’s like noticing, at age 43, that a ton of girls put their phone numbers in my high school annual, and I thought they were just being nice (i.e. I didn’t call a single one), but it’s irrelevant now.
My heart isn’t into making a lot of money or starting a business. My heart is in sharing the gospel whenever I get the chance. I very much see this world as a form of “The Matrix” or a “reality video game”. I’m only here temporarily and, though I very much enjoy where I’ve ended up, I see it as seriously temporal.
