Ford’s next pickup may be a car.

The automaker, which plans to eliminate all of its four-door car models in the U.S. in favor of a mostly SUV and truck lineup, will introduce Focus-based compact pickup in 2020, Automobile reports.

My high school job had one as a shop truck, I drove it a fair amount. It was a decent vehicle.

Yes it’s supposed to be larger than the old ranger

Will it be built for European body proportions? I’m sick of cars that have their steering wheels out over your toes, and ones that you have to put your arm out the back window when you drive. Stop making cars for short legged midgets.

I’m with you. I’ve had the thing 2 weeks and already disabled all the assist controls possible.

I didn’t get an extended warranty on the 4runner, and never needed it. But with all the new electronics on this one, I opted for the 7 year / 75k mile warranty for $1100.

If just one of those gizmos fails, the warranty will pay for itself.

I was told the warranty can be added anytime during the 3 year / 36k mile factory warranty period.

A Bronco reissue would be nice.

It’s coming in 2020. At least the 2 door, “baby Bronco”.

I was hoping the new ranger was sized like the last..new one seems too big...used to have 1983 toyota long bed(7 foot)...wish they made a smallish truck with 4 x 8 bed to carry drywall...or 4x8 wood panels...would be very useful...

“Looks like unibody construction. They did that once a loooooong time ago.”

Enter the Honda Ridgeline - it has a frame and also unibody construction.

I have 130k on mine and it’s a champ.

Excellent trucks.

It’s like they are skipping some of the basics in favor of advanced stuff people don’t really need.

It’s because the stuff you “don’t really need” is cheaper to install. Taking away the old features is called “de-featuring”. Sometimes it’s because a feature was not accepted positively by consumers, like push button shifters back in the 1960 era. But sometimes it’s to reduce costs. Our 2001 Chrysler 300M had real wood panels and steering wheel. It really was a beautiful car. The 2002 replaced the wood with a dark plastic.

I believe Ford is making a huge mistake to no longer make four door sedans. I expect this market will quickly be snapped up by foreign car makers like Hyundai and Toyota. Car buyers are quick to abandon SUVs and small trucks whenever gas prices rise.

Better off buying a nice 4x8 alumna trailer if you don’t require a BIG pick up, virtually zero maintenance.

Ford is also putting a small PowerStroke in their F-150 soon.

I had a Ford Ranger w/ an inline 4 and 5 speed. I drove the wheels off that thing. Motor was still strong at 200K miles. I suspect it would have gone another 100K or so. Never required anything but normal maintenance parts.

I had a 1970 Courier in the mid-70’s thru the late 80’s. It was p-l-a-i-n looking, but got all the jobs done that I needed it to do. And boy was it ever easy to work on...ZERO EPA-infected real estate under the hood.

They should instead partner with Subaru to redo the Baja.

Not the Brat?

Do they even make/sell a Dodge Dakota convertible or was this chopped/modded? I have no idea why the big 3 or even foreign makers aren’t making an options on trucks to do this.

Some wacky person in my neighborhood has attached an old S-10 pickup bed to a VW Bug front.

Huh ... looks better than it did when they first introduced it. Supercab with 6’ bed is actually useful. Same as my 1999 Ranger. Expensive, though.
