Indiana cops are investigating a disturbing case of animal abuse, in which shelter workers allegedly euthanized kittens by freezing them alive.
Several ex-employees have come forward and claimed to have witnessed the cruel and inhumane procedure being performed at the Spencer County Animal Shelter on at least two different occasions.

Sad and cruel. I do not even understand this.
One must only support only a “no kill shelter.”
My dogs and cats are from only no kill shelters. My two dogs would lay down their lives to protect me. My two cats are worthless but they have convinced me that they love me. The cats are liars but they make me happy as I care for their ever need. My most worthless cat sleeps in my bed. The other cat would also but cat one will not allow her in my bed.
Oddly cat two hung around our shop for a year and we fed her. On the days the shop was closed we always went there to make sure she had food. She trained me well. When the weather really got brutally cold she begged to be let into the shop. My wife just put her in a carrier and brought her home. She became the most loving and sweet cat one could imagine. She has absolutely no desire to go outdoors. She is home.
ps
Cats know what you are thinking but they just do not give a damn as long as you do what they want. I am a cat slave.
But my dogs really do love me. My dogs are 80 an 90 pounds of love. They are gentle and kind. If one tried to harm my wife or I they would be ferocious. Dogs do know instinctively if you are a bad guy. If a stranger to my dogs comes to my house they are protective of my wife. Not aggressive but protective. The exact moment she or I show acceptance to the stranger, they will run up and demand to be petted.
The graciousness of humans is often defined by how they treat their cats and dogs.
I rented a cottage on a farm. The little girl just had a new kitten. “So a cat only has one baby?” she asked her dad. “Yep - usually just one.” I gave him a sideways glanced.
After the girl was gone he said “Yeah - she doesn’t need to know they have a bunch. I put the rest in a gunny sack with a rock and toss them into the pond.” Although I didn’t say anything he could tell from my shocked look I guess (suburban college graduate). “It’s a farm. There’s already enough cats to keep the critters down, but it wouldn’t be long before we’d be overrun. It seems as humane as any other way.”
I get it I suppose, but it would seem just as easy and more humane to put a .22 into their head, or bonk them over the head with a sledge hammer.
Putting down anything is tough. You do what you can afford to support. Its a tough call. I love my pets. After saying that, I work hard to feed and keep them safe. Sooner or later some of us will pass. They will be here or not. Same with me. No body is walking out of here. A true friend is a gift from God. I cherish them but I have no idea which of us lasts longer than the other. Its above my pay grade.
Shame abortion keeps being brought up. Derailing threads with it seems a wee bit self righteous. If I want to read about the horror of abortion I’ll visit a thread on the topic. JMO
All the damned commercials on TV begging for $0.19 - $0.63 a day to save Dogs and Cats. Thats these jerks.

Yep. Even putting down a loved pet with a humane shot from the vet, wrapped up in it’s favorite blanket is tough. I never understood all the sadness that people evoked about their dog dying until it happened to me. (I was never a pet person until I got married.)
The vet even came to our house and put our first dog to sleep - it didn’t like going to the vet. Our current and second dog LOVES going to the vet - even after all the crap he’s been through!
That’s another thing I never understood until I had pets. The thousands of dollars one will spend on them. Both dogs were rescue dogs and dirt cheap. (Well - the first was free. A rescue dog of our neighbors, and they gave up on it.)
Part of my wife being able to convince me of it! “All we need to do his update his license, buy a dog dish and some food!”
And of course our current dog is allergic to most everything, and had to eat some expensive food with none of the cheap filler that regular dog food has.
Could have bought a new car for all of the costs involved in the two dogs and two cats we’ve owned over the years! Of course the car just ends up being a headache towards the end. While the pets warmed my heart up to the very end.
I don’t see any difference in the killing of an animal for consumption or the killing of an animal due to overpopulation and it’s not been adopted and euthanizing is the current best next choice. People and animals are at different levels. God said so.
Even good managers have to handle unfun tasks in keeping a balance of their responsibilities. If we opened up a cat or dog meat market then there would likely be much less euthanized. Maybe we can ship excess cats and dogs to countries that consume them?
Animals were put here to be of use to us, food, comfort, clothing...people get to make the choice and it’s kind of silly to think and extremely poor stewardship (imo) that people spend huge amounts of money for specifically bred animals while millions get euthanized.
God loves all of His creations including animals yet people have prioritized some as valuable pets spending to puchase them and clothes and beds and toys and expensive foods etc for them while others are just food source and others pests or nuisance.
No, I’m not vegetarian (anymore), grew up with lots of pets and feral cats around, watched some do stupid things that killed them or lead to them having to be put down. Went thru the phase of”save the animals at all costs”, then met Jesus and learned God has an order for all He created, people get to make choices and are responsible for those choices and will account to Him for them, but most people live like and think like they are in charge.
You don’t see any parallel with this story? Do you know how a saline abortion (to “put down” a baby) burns?
Our society has become completely de-sensitized, but apparently not about kittens...
The American Veterinary Association published a manual on acceptable euthanasia techniques, which can be obtained in pdf format. There are many ways to euthanize animals, and some are aesthetically unappealing, to say the least. The goal is to kill the animal (including animal fetuses) as painlessly as possible.

NO ONE WAS MAKING THAT COMPARISON OR ARGUEMENT
You were just plain ignorant in the earlier post (5).
We are commanded to hold the lives of lesser creatures in regard, in addition to being their stewards. Don't be cruel to them, don't terrorize them, even those destined to be food on the table or who have the misfortune to be inconvenient with no one to care for them. Consider their fear and pain, be gentle.
That's what we as Christians and Jews have been commanded to do. This is not doing so and is therefore wrong. We'll all be held to account for our actions in this life, including treatment of animals, or mistreatment of them as the case may be.
All too many Christians have the strange, erroneous belief that because we have dominion over the animals, that this means we can treat them without regard, even with total disdain. Wrong. Read your scripture. Jews, your scripture contains this too.
you have the link?
We kill animals by the minute to put pretty cuts of meat on display in grocery stores. We love our breakfasts, lunches, and dinners when they have this non-plant protein. We never cry for the animals we slaughtered for our fun, but we cry over a kitten or a dog and think the killer should be in jail.
We kill mice and call them rodents. We hit a squirrel and wince, but drive on to work. We dont think we committed an inhumane thing to either animal.
The people on this thread saying bad things about the shelter people gladly turn a blind eye to their daily animal abuses.
Im not sure how to best kill strays, but freezing doesnt seem any better than running over them with a car.
God gave us dominion over animals. We are caretakers of them. Apparently, some of us think some animals are more equal than others.
“Im curious: what is the proper way to put down an animal? I always thought a bullet to the head was relatively quick and humane, but I dont really know...”
I’m in agreement. A well placed bullet to the head is quick, painless and the subject literally never knew what hit him.
The social aversion to this has to do more with anti-gun brainwashing. I got into an argument once with a lib over this, and to put down an animal with a gun is considered violent because of all the blood. Near as I can figure it, lefties would rather see an animal suffer than to see them bleed or hold a gun to do the deed.
If you have to kill something, there’s no need for the suffering, just get the damn job done and over with.
My standard response to those soliciting donations for the SPCA, World Wildlife Fund, etc..
“So we’ve put an end to abortion? We’re not putting down unwanted humans anymore? No? Get back to me when that happens.”
Years ago, when the time came to say goodbye to your best buddy, your best human friend would take him for his last walk in the woods.
A most difficult task.
I hope I sit down and just fall asleep.
Thats the way one of my grandfathers went.
My grandfather too.
But the passengers in his car screamed all the way down the embankment!
