My PC has been running slowly at times during the past several months. Some time ago, I thought I had done enough troubleshooting to conclude I needed more RAM, so I added 4GB and now have 8GB.
However, the slowness continues. Now I see that when I am loading a new web page in my browser, or a web page update with new content, the CPU usage goes up to 70-90%, and that is when it slows for a while.
I have tried using Waterfox (64-bit version of Firefox) and Edge with the same symptoms and results, so it isn't being caused by the browser.
RAM is nowhere near 100% in use when the slowness happens, or at anytime.
I have a Lenova All-in-One PC that has an Intel Pentium G2030 dual core 3.00GHz processor. The 1TB hard drive has 800GB free space.
Why would the CPU use increase to upwards of 90% at times? Is that normal, or could it be an indication that the PC or the CPU has a problem?
Or is there a setting or two somewhere that would help with this issue?
see what programs are running all the time — there may be many programs/services running in the background that you rarely use (change them from ‘automatic’ startup to ‘manual’)
if you can turn off animations/autoplay in the browser and try to use the older (simpler) interfaces on various websites
use ad blocking features - definitely ... the load keeps getting bigger as they cram more complex crap on the pages
TY. I’ll see if I can do that later.
Would Brave be considered Chrome? I ask because I got an email from Twitter saying there was a login using Chrome. I don’t use Chrome, but I did log in to Twitter using Brave.
I don’t think so.
I haven’t logged on to Twitter since I have been using Brave so I can’t say for sure.
But I do know that Brave is not part of Chrome and not owned by Google.
bkmk
yes windows10 forcing those background updates kills my speed every single time
TY
And so I changed my Twitter password. Just to be safe.
Have you tried overclocking the cpu?
always a good idea
It could be the hard drive failing or it could be something that happened to me.
My tower was running at a glacial pace. I took it in. They checked it out and it ran fine. I brought it home. The ice age returned. Took it back. They showed it to me and it was running great. Took it back home. Mammoths began to die.
I had a stupid idea. What if it were the power strip? Changed the power strip. The tower ran great.
So try plugging it in somewhere else with a different power strip. It can't hurt.
Wow, that is amazing. TY.
