Advice to her:
1. Volunteer in boot camp at your own risk
2. Be an outstanding recruit or be invisible. The drill instructor only remembers the screwups and the outstanding recruits. Attention to detail is key.
3. The DI has nothing against you personally. It’s his/her job to try to make you quit.
4. Attitude is everything. Keep it light and find something to laugh about when the DI isn’t around.
5. Study the materials you are given. Memorize the 11 General Orders of a Sentry. She WILL be required to recite them many times in boot camp.
She’s had the General Orders on a poster over her bed for several months. I think she has them down. “Be great or be invisible is a good principle.
