The movie went on to become a sleeper hit. --SNIP-- The 1970s saw a boom in classic-car restoration, even as more and more Americans were driving Japanese imports. The era also saw an increasing number of “lowriders”–or classic cars or trucks with suspensions that had been modified so that they rode as low to the ground as possible

My 18 year old niece never heard of a toga party so I watched Animal House with her and she loved it.

An equivalent movie for us would be a nostalgic look at the 90’s.

Grunge, The Movie.

My older brother had a '69 Roadrunner in 1969.

What you said.

I was 10 when the movie came out. But my first car 8 years later was a ‘69 Buick Gran Sport 400.

Now that I think about it, most things were different. Some that were the same or similar were the cars, the clothes, hairstyles, and music tho I had never heard of Wolfman Jack.

We did have a hamburger joint where all the kids would hang out. You could eat inside but mostly we all just hung around outside. If you wanted service you just flashed your lights and a car hop would come out.

I was comparing the price of gas in 1973 to the price today.

A 1962 dollar was worth more than $7 in today's money, so gas at $.30/gal wouldn't be that much less than today, at least where I live.

it was set in 1962. an equivalent film today would be a nostalgic look at 2007. Pre-Obamanation America.

What’s the value today of the three silver dimes that bought a gallon of gas back then?

The soundtrack was songs of the 50s, not 1962. it was rock and roll before the Beatles hit.

My favorite movie of all time. Not even close.

And the inspiration for my user name.

“The soundtrack was songs of the 50s, not 1962. it was rock and roll before the Beatles hit.”

Beatles hit in early 1964.

This movie was just like my life. I met my husband 52 years ago at the local drive-in where everyone drove their car to see everyone else. The 60’s was a wonderful time to be a teenager.

I grew up in my 68 convertable GTO. Slap stick, 400, 50’’s on the back. Midnight blue black interior.

Beatles hit radio fall/winter of 1963 in the wake of JFK’s assassination. They didn’t just waltz on Ed Sullivan in February 64. There was a build up.

“The Beatles’ American television debut was on November 18 1963 on The Huntley-Brinkley Report, with a four-minute long piece by Edwin Newman.”

You can use this webpage to figure it out: 1962 dollar in 2018.

According to the page, $100 in 1962 money is worth $834.46, so three 1962 silver dimes are worth just a sliver more than $2.50 today.

1973 was the year of the nostalgic ‘Crocodile Rock’ which looks back in the song to “rockin’ ‘round the clock”, which would have been 1956.

“What’s the value today of the three silver dimes that bought a gallon of gas back then?”

3 dimes X 2.5g per dime X 90% silver X $0.49/g today’s spot price = $3.30
