I was always like, ‘if you are trying to rock, the rap thing just makes you look completely stupid.’ I thought it was a terrible sign for music culture that this dog squeeze could ever become popular. It ushered in the popular music wasteland.

I just don’t like music with shouting in it. Why do people have to shout when they are singing a song?
one of the few times I actually met the lead singer twice in different times and years apart. Fred Durst. 1997 then 2015. Backstage tix on the first as my uncle was the one of the producers on that show. many years later, i s/w him at a resto’ in L.A. I told him Linkin Park blows chunks and he agreed with me.
I don’t mind some shouting. I draw the line at cookie monster growls and shrieking. It just has to be rock, you don’t have to be good but you have to try to do the best you can with the vocal. The rap/hip hop thing I always found completely lame in any capacity.
This era with the rock/rap sucked all the juice from any sort of real rockers. It was pretty much the end of actually good popular heavy rock.
