My friends (a couple) from South Africa have a 2 week visit planned to see me at my place here in Las Vegas. This trip they were planning to bring their good friend, a younger (21 year old) friend of theirs (they're late 20's).
The US denied her tourist visa... without asking any questions. The reason "risk of immigration".
WTF?
A young gal, with a family, friends, job (fitness model) in South Africa can't join her friends in the US for 2 weeks with return ticket in hand? But, anyone waltzing across the Mexican border is in for life no questions asked?

FINALLY some illegal immigration I could get behind!
Gulp. Would she consider adoption?
In any event...good luck bringing your friend over. May the gods of Red Tape smile on y'all.
I’ve chartered a helicopter for a Grand Canyon tour and landing for some photo shoot time... can’t wait.
She’s a white South African. Worse things could happen. Very unlikely to morph into a Democrat voters.
Don’t say drag. That’s insensitive to the alternatively dressed.
Well, ain’t that a drag... oops.. did it again! Confound dang nab it, what don’t get a feller in trouble these days with that there po-lit-ti-cal co-rrect-ness stuff?
I always say that politically correct stuff must actually be incorrect, cause if it was the normal, actual-factual kind of correct, they’d just say “correct”.
Not guilty!
Just learned that now she’s denied again... bummer
There ya go!
Weird! What did they tell her?
Dunno... but my friends don’t want me to intervene (not that I could) because they fear their visas could get yanked too. Will learn more next when they’re here I guess.
It’s an odd situation. I would think it would be unusual for a visa to be denied after an “approval”. I hate to ask, but is it possible she was “less than forthcoming” about some detail and they found out? Do you know what rule she was denied under?
I don't know much... their reason is she's an "immigration risk". I have never met this kid (friend of my friends). She's just getting published and recognized in S.A. as a fitness model, and being young, she may have said something dumb like "I hope to get discovered somehow in my visit to the USA".
I'll get all the scoop next week when my friends do get here.
Yes, but the looming troubles associated with land reform renders some measures indicating motives to return meaningless.
She has a pretty stable family and work situation in S.A., but doesn't own property or anything. She's never been to the US before, so there's no BF or anything drawing her here... she's just tagging along with a friend (and friend's husband).
I think if she got a Che tattoo or something it might improve her chances.
I can only guess things must be getting real bad over there... the US must be worried everyone (whites at least) are wanting to flee.
Turns out State dept had copies of all their WhatsApp conversations. A photographer in Miami paid for their airfare in exchange for a day of underwater shooting. They were interrogated like criminals yesterday, and had video chats played back to them. Visas yanked hours before departure.
