I feel the same way about pitbulls as I do about semi-automatic weapons. It's not that pitbulls cannot be good pets, but the plethora of irresponsible and evil people behind their breeding and rearing is what's behind much of the problem. Two of my closest friends are dog trainers and one of them is also a pitbull rescuer.

So perhaps a ban is not in order but more guided licensing, permit processes...

I prefer cats myself. 🐈🤗

https://www.animals24-7.org/2015/11/10/the-science-of-how-behavior-is-inherited-in-aggressive-dogs/

“As they selected for performance, breeders could not know exactly which physical changes they were selecting for. But research now shows that selection for aggressive performance includes consistently selecting for very specific abnormalities in the brain. These abnormalities appear in many breeds of dog as an accident or anomaly, which breeders then attempt to breed out of the dogs. In the case of the aggressive breeds, the opposite occurred. Rather than excluding abnormally aggressive dogs from their breeding stock, breeders focused on creating lineages in which all the dogs would carry the genes causing them to reliably exhibit the desired impulsive aggressive behavior.”

(excerpt)

Unfortunately, as the problem (gameness, or deadly impulsive aggressive behavior) has been bred into the PBT dog deliberately - along with strength and size and jaws and very hard head - I do not believe that it can be “trained” out.

Now that was a well spoken opinion and idea I can get behind; especially in the cities. Rural areas; not so much.

It's critical that all pet owners make sure their animals can't get out and roam the neighborhood. It's equally critical they treat their pets like they should. The problem is NOT the animals; the problem is bad owners.
