High school chum of mine is a “hog farmer”. He will correct you right away if you call him a pig farmer.

Hog farmers raise swine (genus porcine) for 2 purposes: butchering and begettin’ other hogs.

Mostly the females will be butchered after about 3-4 litters or when they reach a certain, rather large, weight (maybe even yuge).

Males are kept for begettin’ and will go to auction when they are yuge, also. They may be kept for a few more stud seasons or they go to the “bacon factory”. Check your local “County Fair” for the best specimens.

Here’s where the nasty comes in. Hogs are known to eat their still-born piglets right along with the placenta. Live births are watched carefully.

Eons ago, it was noticed that the scat didn’t contain bone matter so many farmers began tossing all their still births and dead animals (anything smaller than a hog) in the pen for easier disposal (recycling works). Middle Ages farmers are recorded as doing this. (Once thought to propagate “plagues”).

The nefarious were known to dispose of human remains, also. (Think mountain feuds).
