Woman sues Canada Dry, claims there's no ginger in its ginger ale

Julie Fletcher of Bolivar, New York, has filed a lawsuit against Canada Dry’s parent company Dr. Pepper Snapple Group, claiming the company’s ginger ale drink, which bills itself as being “made from real ginger,” hardly contains any ginger at all.

In Fletcher’s class-action lawsuit filed July 10 in New York federal court, she noted “Canada Dry’s ginger flavor extract is not ‘real ginger’ as reasonable consumers understand that term,” according to the New York Post. “It is manufactured in a lab using various chemicals and extraction processes.”

While the product has “some ginger compounds,” the percentage is a “minuscule” two parts per million.

“Instead, Canada Dry Ginger Ale is made from carbonated water, high fructose corn syrup, citric acid, preservatives, and “natural flavors,” i.e., a flavor compound comprised predominately of flavor extracts not derived from ginger, and a minuscule amount of a ginger flavor extract,” the lawsuit alleged.

Real ginger is bitter as hell, and it would take LOT of sweetener to turn that off, and make it palatable to the masses.

Japanese sushi gari (thinly sliced pieces of pickled ginger) is pretty good, although they marinate it in sugar and vinegar.

I thought it had ginger. And I’ve heard nurses recommend it because the ginger will help nausea. No wonder it never seemed to help.

While there is no cocaine in Coca-cola, there is a flavoring that is derived from the coca plant.

That’s why it’s Coca-Cola rather than Cocaine-Cola.

Though I think there was cocaine in it at one time.
My mom admitted later in life that she sometimes used to dose my two brothers and I with Cheracol (sp?) - which evidently had some codeine in it - so she could get an occasional break while Dad was working for the Border Patrol, El Paso.

All these years, your grandma told you it would settle your stomach, and it was just a placebo? I’ll bet it had ginger in it, before some accountant figured out they could save 5¢ a bottle by using fake junk in it. I hate Frankensteinian food. twinkies - 39 ingredients, McDonald’s chicken nuggets - 40 ingredients, taco bell regular taco - 51 ingredients.

Next, she will sue when she realizes there is no ‘ale’ in it, either.

No she doesn’t. You just need your glasses updated.

That's the difference between watching on a 19" Sony Trinitron CRT versus a 75" Samsung UHD 4K flat panel.

I thought maybe Schweppes might be the real deal, but 1) it’s made by Coca-Cola, and 2) it’s ingredient list is the same as Canada Dry.

I learned about ginger ale and ginger as seasickness antidotes from very experienced fisherman. It helped me the last time I went Albacore fishing.
