When you think about homicide and violence in general, it is remarkable that it is so rare. In certain populations. The urban minorities that are killing each other at a fierce rate are probably off the charts in perpetrating violence against other persons (both homicidal and less than lethal.) In measuring crime rates the problem is always the denominator. In Honduras, for example, the murder rate is around 90/year/100,000 in population. This is a staggering rate, related to Honduras’ position as a major break bulk point for drugs form South America headed for the US. In the US the homicide rate will range from 2-4 per 100,000/year, typically. But for Detroit or Saint Louis or Baltimore, it could be 8-10x that. It is all in how you draw the boundaries that form the denominator in the rate calculation.

Her father lives in California. It is very sad all the way around.
Young women going jogging alone in secluded areas, never a good idea.
