By surrendering to the triple-lens competition, Apple has once more given away the high-ground to manufacturers such as Samsung and Nokia who are expected to have triple-lensed cameras on handsets before the end of the year. Once more the iPhone will be playing catch-up, hoping its fan base will be happy to wait for new technology already available in the mainstream.

I still have an iPhone 6. My only issue is the crappy battery life. I also carrry a 2nd phone being a samsung edge 8. I hate the samsung softwares.

Apple makes more profit from smart phone sales than all other manufacturers combined...
It helps to have a captive audience, where people get locked-in to a particular way of doing things and then fear getting something different.
A third camera lens may catch on, and all it takes is for a bunch of people to get their hands on the first set of smartphones with the 3-lens feature, and then, everybody else is going to want one. When feature-wise there isn't that much more that excite people, just create excitement over something that nobody really needs. Sort of like the notion that everybody needs or wants payments through their smartphones. Build it and they will come; except when it makes no sense.
