By surrendering to the triple-lens competition, Apple has once more given away the high-ground to manufacturers such as Samsung and Nokia who are expected to have triple-lensed cameras on handsets before the end of the year. Once more the iPhone will be playing catch-up, hoping its fan base will be happy to wait for new technology already available in the mainstream.

LOL. No matter how they lag, Apple makes more money than any of them, or perhaps all of them combined. Android user here, but I am truly in awe of the Apple brand’s power.
I never felt a need to be on the bleeding edge of technology. My iPhone 7 is amazing.
Dont own anything from them. If they werent so cultish about their tech I would have at least one thing, probably a nice laptop.
APPLE: America’s first TRILLION-dollar company??
Yeah, I don’t use my phone for much more than texting and phone calls. I’ll use it in a pinch for social media or news updates.
If you don’t live on your phone, it’s hard to beat Apple. Stuff just works, is consistent, and generally not overly complicated as the phone is protected from most of the stupid things a user can do.
Then there’s that build quality and presentation.
I hate that I have any Apple product, but for what I need a handset for, the iPhone is just rock solid.
Not defending Apple, but if the best photos are my quest, I’ll use my frigging high end digital camera.
I never buy the first version of new products let them shake out the bugs first.
Triple-lens smartphone???
Must be like the razor-blade competition of a few years back. Why have just one blade when you can get a razor with 2 or 3 or 4 or more blades. If one blade doesn’t get the stubby hair, the next one following will.
LOL I have to admit I like the 4 blade razers because I don't nick myself as much. But I am just trying to help get Swordmaker back on track. He seems to have gone on a total “Q anon” kick and forgotten all about his loyal Apple following. We haven't had a good knock down drag out tech thread in a long time! ; )
Swordmaker did create a thread a few weeks back, where he was espousing the MacBook Pro’s great new features. Turns out that that great new latest-and-greatest of Macbooks was overhearing and slowing down to speeds lover than Macs of the last few years.
Perhaps the Macs needed a few extra CPUs or i9 processors, in order to keep up with what the users were doing.
Imagine any other PC manufacturer having the same problem. They’d go out of business within a week.
Same here, IPhone 7 is the Bomb. My previous Razrrrs never updated the OS so they were obsolete without resolution. Never again. Besides, my phone takes great pics.
Yea, because a third lens is what folks are chomping at the bit for...
What a bunch of nonsense.
Tell you what, when android’s start shipping with a true depth camera, we claims of Apple leading from behind will still have no merit, because.. well, they will just be catching up...
Seriously folks, don’t care if you own an Android or Apple... I develop software for both, and use both.. but anyone claiming a camera spec bump is a sales driver is a fool.
Apple earns over 1/2 of all smart phone sales revenue, last year making over $61.4 BILLION dollars, more than all other manufacturers combined. You don’t get to a point where you have so much cash on hand you could literally NOT SELL ANOTHER PRODUCT FOR 10 YEARS and still pay all your bills and salary.... Yep, that’s how much cash apple has.. enough to keep operating without making another penny in revenues for a decade.
So, stupid petty claims that Apple is making poor products or inferior things is just stupid.
Personally I agree they have lost there way a bit since Jobs passed, but anyone claiming they are being left behind by the competition isn’t paying attention.
Get up to date...
The heat throttling was fixed by a software patch...
Now, I do agree Apple has missed the MARK on the MacBook pro since the 2016 update... but hardly are they hurting.
Exactly...
This article is just nonsense.
No one is chomping at the bit over a third lens in their phone camera..
IF they are serious photographer they have a dedicated camera, and if they aren’t, and they are bragging about their third lens in their phone, they are just trying to mentally make themselves feel better about they fact that they don’t have an iPhone.
No one is chomping at the bit over a third lens in their phone camera..
I don't actually have strong feelings about this. If I didn't know better I would agree with you. But if you do not think that there are people who make a decision about which cell phone to buy based on the camera specs... then you haven't looked at Zillow lately. Realtors love quality cell phone cameras because they typically take a better looking wide angle shot than even expensive DSLR cameras, not to mention it is one less piece of kit to carry around. The tiny sensor and wide angle translates into almost the entire picture being in focus, something that you typically don't want from a DSLR, but is advantageous for pictures of rooms inside of houses.
It is completely counter-intuitive, because one thinks of cell phone cameras as being cheap add-ons. I have good quality DSLRs with a wide variety of lenses, various quality compact “Super Zoom” cameras, and even 3D Cameras. But when you are trying to take wide angle pictures of the inside of a house to show off the progress that you have been making or for an ad... it is often very hard to beat the results you get from a “quality” cell phone camera even using completely automatic settings.
So sorry, despite your extreme expertise in all matters electronic, in this case you do not know what you are talking about.
Check my other posts here, I think Apple completely missed the mark with the 2016 MacBook Pro redesign and have said so, they clearly have lost there way a bit since jobs passed, but articles like this one are just silliness.
Apple makes more profit from smart phone sales than all other manufacturers combined... and the idea a third lens camera is a major driver of sales is silly on its face.
