"Most people can't perceive that they're 1.5 percent dehydrated,"
The women took one test designed to measure cognitive flexibility. It's a card game that requires a lot of attention, since the rules keep changing throughout the game.
"When the women were dehydrated they had about 12 percent more total errors" in the game
. "We were able to improve executive function back to normal in other words, back to the baseline day when they rehydrated," the scientist says.

And everyone knows what fish do in water!
Dehydration is a much bigger problem than most people realize.
I dont sell water.
Dehydration is a much bigger problem than most people realize.
Sure is. And it hits you quick.

A friend and I did an experiment at an IPSC match, outdoors in a California canyon. Me, my friend and one other deliberately hydrated, drinking at least 8 oz after each stage and sometimes more. Our control group didn’t drink as much. Next match we swapped, and I cut way back on water (yet didn’t feel thirsty).
The results were very clear- the hydrated group did much better timewise and scorewise than the non-hydrating group. We handled obstacles better and kept track of scores better. So that became the club standard, tons and tons of water.
agreed. our bodies are 80% water so it’s quite easy to become dehydrated. The best way to hydrate is to drop 1/8 tsp of unrefined salt on your tongue, let it dissolve then drink a big glass of water...salt is key
This is why I drink my water when driving my cab...even though it means bathroom breaks I dont want to take. Ive heard it affects your driving.
Well dang, I’ll start drinking more water. Dehydration along with dementia took my mom........sigh

Very interesting!
Any idea of the percent of body weight loss on the dehydrated group?
Just discussed this topic with a friend and did a slightly different experiment.
Weighing in with my two water bottles and after a one-hour bicycle ride at 85-90% of my maximum heart rate.
A cool 77 deg. and partly cloudy day.
A four-pound drop! I weigh 190, ~2.1%
90% for an hour is a moderate ride for me, above 90% it becomes difficult for that length of time. (for me)
For fun, I once returned to the house WITHOUT a cool down and at 100% heart rate, I have a 50-foot target in my basement.
I felt lucky to be on the paper! From prone!!!
The biathlon guys are simply INCREDIBLE!!!
And cross-country skiing has the highest sustained heart rate of any sport. Amazing.
Does it hydrate or dehydrate you? is that it actually dehydrates you. It’s actually thought that if you drink 200 ml of beer, that you don’t just urinate 200 ml of water. You actually urinate 320 ml of water, which is a 120 ml of dehydration.
Be that as it may, recall W.C. Fields and his fish!
even though it means bathroom breaks I dont want to take.
Perhaps a Texas catheter and a very small hole in the floorboard?
Sometimes when I get dehydrated it feels like someone is sticking a knife on the inside of my shoulder blade.
One of our younger female relatives is in great shape as a life long dancer.
Besides an obvious mental decrease with dehydration, she gets migraines and has passed out and ended up in an ER.
She has an uncle, who had similar problems in his early 20’s and was told by a trainer to hydrate and hydrate. He was a competitive bike rider and now bikes over 5,000 miles a year between working 40-50 hours per week. He uses two camel backs on a daily ride of 40 to 50 miles while riding and hydrates before and after.
Keep in mind that it is not just dehydration but also loss of electrolytes (no, not selling Brawndo).
Potassium, calcium, and magnesium are critical for muscles and motor control.
Severe muscle cramps can be caused by low electrolyte levels.

Interesting. I don’t have a right rotator cuff, and I get a steroid shot about once a year where the rotator cuff was.
After about 9 months post shot if I am not fully hydrated, I get that seem wonderful feeling if I lift my hand above my shoulder or use my right arm for working around the yard or house.
That is because alcohol acts as a diuretic.
That said, any of you who are on a diuretic (say for blood pressure, taken with an ACE inhibitor drug or the like) need to inform your doctor of any outside activities in the heat. Since I have been getting my fitness back for bicycling (and I live in Texas where it’s now awful hot), my doc has put me on a weaker diuretic, since I lose a lot of fluid (and electrolytes) via sweating.
Any ideas on how to get potassium, calcium, and magnesium naturally?
bookmark
Potassium: Bananas, potatoes, squash, broccoli
Calcium: Dairy
Magnesium: Spinach, almonds, dark chocolate, black beans, yogurt
There are also good supplements on the market.
