ginsy is old. Although there aren’t any firm age limits to receive a transplant, as you get past 70, transplant centers become increasingly reluctant to give you a new organ.
The problem is, a transplant of a major organ is major surgery, and it’s very hard on the body.
If you’re 30 and otherwise healthy, you’ll be pretty good to go in 6 weeks, and pretty much all healed in 6 months to a year.
If you’re 60, you may need a year or two (or three or four) to make it back as far as you’re going to get, and that may not be all the way back.
If you’re 80, there’s a good chance you won’t survive the surgery.
And then, there are the immunosuppressants. They’re vital to keep your new organ, but they make you susceptible to various illnesses, and especially to cancer.
Transplant centers are obligated to minimize risk to recipients. For an 85 year-old two-time cancer survivor, the likelihood of a transplant center accepting you are slim. They don’t want to kill you.

Micromatrix approach begins with a clean biological scaffold which is then infused with a recipients stem cells to grow a new functional organ. Likely to succeed first with producing a functional liver.
A whole liver has to include an intrinsic vascular supply and a micro collection system for the excretion of bile...a bit more complicated then just growing tissue on a matrix bathed in nutrients. I imagine they’ll work those issues out and as the liver isn’t a muscular organ the way the heart is, I agree you might see livers first.
Probably doesn’t matter. She’s lasted this long without a heart or a brain.

The 26th needed to include military service as a prereq, which was the argued reason for it. God know I would not trust 18 year old ME to make important decisions (and I was a very mature, independent 18).
