I never did a cartwheel in my kilt.

So who's the braveheart now? (yes, I know you're Irish and he was Scottish :)

Some language intricacies are in order, I think.

Since 2008, we have heard the snide labeling of Patriots as “tea baggers”, referencing a homosexual act. Interestingly enough, that term has a twisted history in the US.

Tea bagging has a “street cred” background from as far back as I have been playing pick-up basketball games in an urban setting (ca: 1972) and goes even further back among blacks and the B-ball culture.

When an offensive player is so dominant over a defensive player such that the defensive player falls down, the offensive player humiliates him by striding slowly over his face while he is down. The defender is forced a view up the leg of the offensive player. The offensive player is showing the other the SIZE of his equipment. This has always been known as “tea-bagging”. (YouTube “nba tea bagging”)

The NBA and NCAA has outlawed the practice and players, to this day, are disciplined for it.

Curiously, there is historical precedent found in the kilt wearing Celts (both Irish and Scots).

Not having seen the movie Braveheart, I have been told (anecdotally) there is a seen where Mel and his Mighty Scots stand ready to face the invading army and, on cue, raise their kilts to show off their “fighting equipment” in an attempt to intimidate. Others have told me (anecdotally) that shorter scenes show Mel stepping over defeated and fading warriors in the field; tea bagging them.

Yes, my family is Scots-Irish.

Ah, but see, I’m not actually Irish at all. Irish Guard is a thing.
