You presented a scenario in your last post involving debris lying in the road. I’m also envisioning a scenario where the debris is falling off a vehicle as it is moving — even in the next lane, where following distance doesn’t come into play.
That’s a different story. If you’re not following the vehicle in the same lane, and are in the lane to the right or left, yes, it might be difficult to avoid debris falling off a truck, if it bounces/veers sideways into your lane.
But read back, I said , when someone hits debris on the roadway, Its most *always* the case of someone not paying attention, following too close to the vehicle ahead, and or not driving too fast for existing road conditions.
Read the words carefully.
How about about people jumping from over passes? There are a million scenarios.
Off subject, but like this scenario..Those big overhead signs for off ramps and interchanges, they have catwalks up there so they can maintain the lighting, install cameras etc. In LA lots of them have bullet holes in them too. Anyway, about 3 years ago this guy was passing vehicles on the 5 freeway shoulder. He lost control and after impacting one vehicle, he then violently rolled his vehicle multiple times, with enough force to eject the driver straight straight up about 25 feet, onto one of those catwalks. Fire dept brought down the body. Should have wore his seat-belt.. He got launched.
