"Is he gonna blow us all up?"
So inquired one of Elisabeth LaMotte's patients recently, fretting out loud about the volatility of U.S. President Donald Trump's actions during a therapy session at her Washington practice.
It was a rhetorical question one that predated Trump's threats of a showdown with Iran this week. But if the question wasn't meant in earnest, the politically induced anxiety LaMotte is hearing about from her clients certainly is, says the founder of the D.C. Counselling and Psychotherapy Center.
She refers to it as a "collective anxiety" among patients who feel on edge about how potentially dire the president's decisions could be.
"There is a fear of the world ending," she said. "It's very disorienting and constantly unsettling."
What's been called "Trump Anxiety Disorder" has been on the rise in the months following the election, according to mental-health professionals from across the country who report unusually high levels of politics-related stress in their practices.
And it's maybe not surprising given the relentlessly negative headlines and politically divisive climate.

The only channel that reports straight news is One America News (OAN). Glad I found it on streaming a few weeks ago. Everything else is propaganda. I say that as a retired communications guy with two degrees in Journalism.
Start your morning with Fox and Friends. I would every day, but here on the left coast it starts at 3:00am, and if I record it, I rarely have time to watch it. But what I can catch is very pro-Trump, and quite entertaining.
I also keep Fox News on most of the day, and—for the most part—it, too, is pro Trump. But, Special Report is NOT!
Poor little snowflakes.
Very unhealthy population densities over yonder. I would invest in a universal TV remote or hi-tech bluetooth ap to manage all those public TVs.
“What’s been called “Trump Anxiety Disorder””
Trump win cured me of Hillary Anxiety Disorder and also Worried-about-the-future-of-America disorder.
“The sky is falling!” cried Chicken Little.
Weak minds just run in circles.
“TRUMP IS LIVING IN THEIR HEADS RENT FREE! I LOVE IT!!!”
I remember years ago some actor saying that is better to have nasty things said about you than never to be mentioned at all——and be ignored.
.
I much prefer to stay away from the "news" as much as possible and live my life instead. Just don't need the negativity as I try to rebuild my life after divorcing two years ago.
I get about all the news I need from FR and a few other sites I trust. The fact we can debate the news here and I get to read so many varying opinions from posters that I've "known" for a long time and I value their opinions means much to me.
Exactly. These people are freaking out over an alternate reality.
Most “therapists” are LIB idiots. Those “sessions” must be lots of laughs!!!
You have two choices in NYC: get insulted by the Left or become a hermit.
Three choices. I call them idiots right to their faces. They cannot handle it.
I’ve always thought losing elections hit liberals harder because most are atheists and don’t believe in anything higher than government. Most conservatives believe in God, and know that this life is merely a pit stop on the way to a better place. So we can shrug off disappointment in elections somewhat easier.
Liberals? Government is all they’ve got.
If the therapist had any sense she would tell the patient with TDS (Trump Derangement Syndrome) to turn off the boob tube, and the patient would recover in no time.
Chances are, though, that most therapists are afflicted with the same disease.
Conservatatives are more stable than that.
That would be fun. Turn the channel to the Trump rallies.
When government is your “god”, its displacement by free enterprise can be devastating.
