When I was about 10 I had to walk to school every day. A terrier 2 streets away would chase me and snap at my legs. At least 3 or 4 pairs of pants were torn by that dog and when my parents talked to the owner, he did nothing. My mom gave me a water pistol filled with vinegar to carry when I walked to school. It did stop the dog when he attacked, and he didn’t stop attaching until after the second time I squirted him in the eyes with the vinegar, but he did stop after that.
That was in 1957.
Vinegar is good for many things.
You mother was a smart woman, obviously.
These are not the same terriers, as we all know.

In the vein of discussion of how game these dogs are, I want to share this series of photos I took of the pitbull that came in my front yard recently. He was with someone who visited my next-door neighbor and that person just let him roam around and as you see he has no collar or means to control him. I was very worried as I have small dogs and a young son. What hes doing in my bushes is attacking wasp nests. Anyone with junipers knows how the wasps love them and they get numerous nests in them in summer. He was sticking his head in the bush after listening to locate them, biting the nests and the wasps would swarm out and sting him all over which would make him furiously wag his tail and dive in snapping at the nests more. It was stunning and frightening to see. If my dogs get stung even by one bee, they come running and crying to me. This dog was getting amped up and was in a focused frenzy. This went on for several minutes.
