A young girl in Oklahoma said she snagged a “weird” catch over the weekend, reeling in a fish bearing “human-like” teeth.
Kennedy Smith, 11, was on a fishing trip at Fort Cobb Lake with her grandparents and brother on Sunday and got “really excited” when she hooked the fish on her line, she told The Associated Press.
But to Smith’s surprise, her grandmother was bitten by the animal while she was trying to take out the hook.
"I was confused because I knew that fish with teeth are not normal. It was weird," Smith told the outlet. "They were human-like and that made it even weirder."
Turns out that the strange looking creature was a Pacu, Caddo County Game Warden Tyler Howser told The Associated Press.
“I've actually caught one myself,” Howser said. “As soon as I saw (it) I said ‘I know what that is.’” ..."
Officials said the toothy creature likely got into the lake after first being bought as a pet and then getting released once it became too big.
Pacu are considered an invasive species that can destroy the native Oklahoma fish ecosystem and habitat, so the fish Kennedy caught was taken by the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation and destroyed.

Yes, and they are difficult little bastards to catch. They bite a lot like walleye and it’s really hard to tell when they’re munching on your shrimp. I hate those little bait stealers. LOL.
Not so unusual. The Tautog has teeth like this and I caught them occasionally 30 years ago.

I could use some of them teeth myself! Missing a few up front, and don’t know if my plan covers a replacement bridge. Think I may take up fishing!
No, this isn't me. But you get the idea!
My guys (husband and son) mostly spearfish, so they don’t have to trick them into getting on hook. I think in recent years they may have come out with a rig that is specifically for their type of mouth. Being a 7th generation Floridian, the fishermen I’ve seen with the best technique for catching Sheephead will pull up near a piling on a bridge and scrape the barnacles on the piling which sends them into a bit of a feeding frenzy, they catch them in that atmosphere.
They are my favorite fish to eat. The guys spear every kind of fish, grouper, snapper, hogfish, mackerel, amberjack...but I say, just take some time out of chasing those and bring me some Sheephead. Plus the Sheephead has the lowest mercury content of almost any fish because they’re not eating other fish,
but barnacles, crustaceans, etc.
A lot of people think they’re “junk fish” but a local captain says “The only people who don’t like Sheephead are the people who’ve never eaten a
Sheephead.”
