I went to the Beijing Olympic complex last October - it looks just fine, still in use.
Actually it IS aestatically pleasing. They put an artificial waterfall behind our condo, it too is pleasing. I could stare at flowing water for hours.

I didn’t say aesthetically pleasing I said artistically pleasing. Building is too chunky and there is no grace to the waterfall. It is not pleasing to the eye
