I’m going to out on a limb here and speculate that this wasn’t a hockey player wearing a playoff beard.
They did make the playoffs this year, so you can’t advance that theory as confidently as you could some years. Maybe someone wanted to be traded and the Leafs insisted that he stay in Toronto.

This proves that hockey should be banned. It leads to violence. If not with sticks and skates by the players at the rink, then by crazed fans after a game.
