A missing Russian Imperial Navy cruiser said to contain 200 tons of gold bullion worth an estimated $133 billion has been discovered after being lost at sea for 113 years.

The wreck of the Dmitrii Donskoi, a 6,200-ton warship that went down during the Russo-Japanese war of 1904-05, was discovered on July 15 about 0.8 miles (1.3 km) from the shores of Ulleungdo, a South Korean island located 75 miles (120 km) east of the Korean Peninsula, the Telegraph reports. The ship was found under 1,400 feet of water (430 meters) by an international consortium led by a South Korean salvage team called the Shinil Group.

From what I read it was a Russian naval transfer from Moscow to Vladivostok for use in paying government salaries and doing government business on that side of the world.

The Donskoi wasn’t missing. It’s always been where the IJN left it.

Watched an amazing video yesterday about the salvage of a fuel truck that fell of a barge in 1200’ of water in British Columbia.

Two years of planning later it was raised intact using a submersible ROV, some cranes/cables/custom equipment without spilling a drop of the cargo.

I’ve the experience of having calculated stowage of many a container ship prior to computerization of the task in my time, and I will say to all only this. A Battleship is not a cargo ship.

I smell a smell about this article similar to what we called “Honey Wells” back in mid sixties S. Korea.

Today's spot price for an ounce of gold is 1,231.48. There are approximately 14.583 troy ounces in an avoirdupois pound. Precious metals are always quoted in troy ounces (31.1 grams), as apposed to the standard avoirdupois ounce of 28 grams. 2,000 pounds to a ton, multiplied by 200 tons equals 400,000 pounds of gold believed to be at the wreck site makes the haul a potential worth of:

$7,183,469,136.00 - 7.81 billion (with a B) dollars 8>)

Is my maths wrong?

Yes, a little bit. Gold is measured in Troy ounces which are 12 to a pound, not 16.

The people that discovered this, then allowed it to become public knowledge should be permanently locked up in a padded cell and neutered so they cannot pass on stupid genes.

Yet another media scam.
The Russian government didn’t need to ship this much gold on a warship that was in danger of being sunk. They could have sent it to Vladivostok (the fleet’s destination) by rail, in perfect safety.

Your math is wrong. Gold is measured in Troy ounces. There are about 14.58 Troy ounces per pound. You’re about 10% high on your calculation.

They could have sent the gold by railway...if there had been one. The Trans-Siberian Railway was not complete at this time. The section around Lake Baikal was an engineering headache.
