LOS ANGELES (AFP) - Harvey Weinstein's lawyers are calling on a US judge to dismiss a lawsuit from actress Ashley Judd -- who accuses the disgraced mogul of torpedoing her career -- on the grounds that she had made a sexual "deal" with him.

The 50-year-old actress says the once-influential Hollywood producer sabotaged her career by convincing Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson not to cast Judd after she rejected Weinstein's sexual advances.

inRead invented by Teads Weinstein fell from grace after scores of women came forward with allegations against him ranging from harassment to rape.

But in a motion filed Tuesday in a Los Angeles court, Weinstein's defense team insisted Judd had struck a "deal" with Weinstein allowing him to touch her if she "won an Academy Award in one of his films."

Weinstein's attorneys claim the ex-movie mogul then "attempted to live up to his part of the bargain" by working to cast Judd in "as many roles as possible" -- including opposite Matt Damon in Good Will Hunting, a role for which Minnie Driver ultimately won an Oscar nomination.

His action "reflects his motivation to advance her career, not ruin it" and undermines Judd's "defamation claim (as well as her retaliation claim) in its entirety," the court documents say....

Judd sold her soul - okay, not her soul, a bit of property below her biological equator - for success in Hollywood. As one Freeper stated here months ago, twenty-five years ago she was a hot mess. Now she’s just a mess, looking to vent her rage on someone somewhere.

Another reason I hate the Kentucky Wildcats

I'm sure Kentucky is proud of her antics and politics. Remember when she considered running for Senator? Yes, I am not a fan of Kentucky either. I'd pull for the Gators before Kentucky.

Depending upon when CA made sexual coercion a crime, Judd may still have a case.

This is actually a brilliant PR strategy on Weinstein's part (scummy b@stard that he is). He's being hit with ancient allegations that are probably too old & weak to stand up in court, yet are killing him in a "death by a thousand cuts". He's using the same strategy back by merely alleging that "we had an understanding". Notice that Judd doesn't deny it? He doesn't really need to offer much proof of a deal since the public allegation of a 'deal' pretty much nullifies her initial claim. People get disgusted and stop listening.

Yaelle - once again I find myself in agreement with you. There is a deep and very troubling undercurrent of misogyny on this forum. Blame the woman. After all, we know all women are whores. My guess is there are a lot of men here who have screwed up their marital - or otberwise- relationships and cboose to blame the woman rather than admit their own failures.

There are a lot of men here with a hefty dose of misogyny. I don’t know whether they or their wives screwed up their marriages; it is women sometimes too. But apparently this actress is partly to blame for her experiences with Harvey, I am happy to stand corrected, I don’t know of her much. However, it makes me ill to see how many freep-men do consider all female victims liars out for money, like they did with even Bill cosby’s Victims.

A hefty dose of freeper men believed Cosby was innocent after dozens and dozens of cases of him drugging and raping women. Blaming women for being semi-alone with someone that beloved and famous, like they deserved to be roofied. A lot of these men claim to be conservatives, loving freedom, religious, whatever, they ogle every hot female photo posted here, but they toss every sex victim under the bus as a whore before they could ever get their belt buckle open. Thank goodness there are still enough freeper men left who genuinely like women.

Those misogynists are fewer than they appear. They’re just extremely loud. The number of classic sexists is much larger, but most mean no harm. They just long for the return of an imagined youth where women were pretty and available. I doubt a tenth of them would say half in person.

I believe most here just value women who are feminine, not feminists. It shouldn’t be a crime to dress well or appreciate someone’s physical appearance. It’s just a shame that the lines of propriety have all but disappeared. I love women, but I prefer mine clothed and coiffed in public.

No question that the feminine of the species is all too often a contributing factor in relationship problems. But I also agree that many men on this “conservative” forum, who consider themselves “good Christians” oogle women and make “wink wink” sexually-suggestive coomments. And yes, I am deeply offended that so many men here dismissed the accusations against Cosby simply because at some point he had supposedly made some “conservative” comments, so all is forgiven.

Internet boards are hardly a bastion of considered rhetorical analysis. Most posters spend little time considering their words. FR has become more coarse over the years, though I’d put it above most non-moderated forums.

Often the first posts on any topic are reactive and banal. I’m not sure how many continued support of Cosby once the level of his abuse was made clear.

As to the sexually suggestive threads, I find most are inhabited by the same audience. Unfortunately, too much of our modern dialogue is filled with perverse sexual topics, so the bar has been lowered dramatically. Since “the love that not speak its name” has become “the love that won’t shut up,” many think that anything heterosexual is conservative. Comments once restricted to barrooms are uttered indiscriminately in polite company.

This happens a LOT with conservatives. We are so beat up in the daily media that if anyone fakes being like us, we forgive them ANYTHING. The senate race in Alabama, totally fine to have been searching for young teen girls in his 20s. A rich serial rapist who belonged in the federal pen told black youths to pull up their pants and stay in school, and no prob with the conservative men, those b*tches set him up... and of course my favorite, the brilliant constitutional expert attorney who had many a sexual encounter with a 16 year old girl but espouses pro-Trumpian stuff and he’s a-ok.

Haven’t we seen, with all the preachers and priests who have been criminal, that all kinds of humans can go toward evil? And there probably are serious leftists who wouldn’t hurt a fly. Morality isn’t always political.

I’m with those men. I’m no feminist either. And it is as bad a child rape to falsely accuse someone of child rape! But some male FReepers are really unfair to actual victims. Even those young men and women (some still minors) abused by coaches or team doctors, maybe they’ve forgotten how naive kids are when they know little about the body etc. Kids want to seem cool with things, and a doctor whose intent is to molest, is going to take advantage of that.

A lot of people blissfully don’t know how sneaky a grooming molester can be. I’m glad they don’t know. But when FReepers say “no way that would have happened to me at 15,” they do not know that. Many, many young teens don’t have the judgment adults glean with time on the planet.

I agree. Most people have no idea about many things and that is generally a good thing; however, when that ignorance blossoms into stupidity, it’s no excuse.

Sex, race and religion are constant subjects where idiots and bigots abound. Trauma is lifelong, and few understand how little it takes to send someone back to the pain. When kids are abused, it’s a lifetime of hurt. We all have our crosses to bear, but it would be nice if others wouldn’t add weight to them. I can’t count the number of times I’ve hit the abuse button—unfortunately, I see no letup.

Yaelle - you are Jewish - Israeli? I am Gentile but spent many years living and teaching (Arab Christians) in Israel, where I met my Swiss wife and our first 2 children were born - one at Makkaset hospital on the Mount of Olives and the second at another fine hospital - this one Jewish - in Rehavia. Those were the best years of our lives.
