I know I for one dont know anyone with a bike that I could beg borrow, but I know of one or two I might could steal, but that would change the whole story. ;-) Is there by any chance a slight difference in age between you and the young guy who walked 20 miles to get to work? Around our neighborhood every house has at least a couple of bicycles. There are also a large numbering of inexpensive bicycles available at garage sales and craigslist. I am happy for the guy, but it seems that he might not be the most resourceful person. I am pushing 60 but making it 20 miles to a new job would not be a challenge for me car or not and I wouldn't waste 6 hours walking to it.

I do believe that you are totally overthink the situation, look for a flaw, a wrong a mistake or something not inline with the spirit of the story a common trait among more that a few FReepers. May I suggest instead that you follow scripture and let it go.
