Can’t believe it was 10 years ago already to when I saw them reunite for this one-off tour. Sounded great and all players put out great performances. I saw Al Dimeola last year and was still good, but didn’t have the fire of the 2008 Return To Forever show.
I had a chance to see RTF on their 2008 tour when they came to Dallas, but finances were so tight at the time, I had to pass.
That was a bit of a heartbreak, but not totally. I was friends with the family back in the day, and have supped with Chick and his kin many times.
Never got to know the other members of the band, but I knew Chick well enough that he would sometimes encourage me to keep working at my own music.
His mom was like a grandma to all us budding musicians on the scene. She was also a scary good Italian chef.
