It wasn't Trump who backed off. It was his feckless AG, Jeff Sessions, who recused himself from any and all investigations pertaining to the 2016 election.
There's also no guarantee that Hillary would be imprisoned by now, no matter who had been elected president. Even with a full-blown, agressive investigation, there's such a thing as due process, which takes time.
There is also the matter of politics, which unfortunately, plays a very large part in these kinds of things. Going after Hillary would (or will) engender a level of push-back from the establishment and the political left, such has never been witnessed in this country.
Toppling Hillary would result in a domino effect of historic proportions. Hundreds of co-conspirators, their accomplices, and complicit enablers, would be caught up in the web of indictments and prosecutions. The full scope of such an endeavor would be mind boggling, and would likely bring down half the government. It would also rip this country asunder, and would likely be the catalyst for actual civil war.
And you think we would have gotten to that point in a scant eighteen months, if Cruz had been elected? Sorry, but that's not even close to being realistic.
Stop padding this. Trump BACKED OFF of calling for Hillary’s prosecution. That was his first big mistake.
Would I vote for him again? In a heartbeat.
That doesn’t make him beyond criticism. In fact, my voting for him gives me every right to criticize him for his shortcomings.
Being a slobbering Trump sycophant is just as bad or worse than being a NeverTrumper.
