My boys compete at elementary local state and national, placing in each. It is true that 90% of their competitors come from a non-American and non-European origins, most are probably first generation from India and China. It is a sad testament to our country’s approach to education and study habits. Competition is tough, requires more than common core math, and requires practice.

We have had two grand kids in Math Olympics and winning top math honors through middle school.

The Grand Daughter irrelevantly referred to herself and a young former Russian girls as the female honkies of the math team.

Her younger brother and one other American honky shared the spotlight with Indians from India, Chinese and SE Asians, all males.

As a Harvard alum, I want to point out these are precisely the kind of kind of students Harvard’s admissions system is limits in the name of “diversity.”

A group representing Asian applicants to Harvard has filed a Federal law suit against Harvard charging that their admission system discriminates illegally.

Evidently things have changed. When I got my PhD in Mathematics at Ohio State in 1960, the majority of my fellow students were white males, but even so lots of women. All of both sexes of European descent. Teachers were Americans, except for a Hungarian immigrant, a former officer in the Austro-Hungarian Army, who was one of the best teachers I ever had. I have no idea what it's like there now
