Methinks our increased soy intake is the reason for more peanut allergies, no one heard of peanut allergies 50 years ago, before soy was put into everything.
That very well could be. They are in the same plant family.
Soy is not good for you in a number of ways.
From the Wikipedia:
Peanut allergies are uncommon in children of undeveloped countries[17] where peanut products have been used to relieve malnutrition.[18] The hygiene hypothesis proposes that the relatively low incidence of childhood peanut allergies in undeveloped countries is a result of exposure to diverse food sources early in life, increasing immune capability, whereas food selection by children in developed countries is more limited, reducing immune capability.[17][19] A possibility of cross-reaction to soy was dismissed by an analysis finding no linkage to consumption of soy protein, and indicated that appearance of any linkage is likely due to preference to using soy milk among families with known milk allergies.[20]
I dated a girl in high skrool ‘78 or ‘79(once) who was very allergic to peanuts. I love them and ate peanut butter almost daily.
A month or so later, she walked into a BBQ joint and asked if their sauce had peanut butter in it and explained her situation. She died of anaphylactic shock right there in the booth.
