Southwest Airlines will discontinue its peanut snacks effective August 1 to accommodate travelers with allergies. The company confirmed the announcement in an email Tuesday to The Hill. Peanuts forever will be part of Southwests history and DNA. However, to ensure the best on-board experience for everyone, especially for customers with peanut-related allergies, weve made the difficult decision to discontinue serving peanuts on all flights beginning August 1, Southwest said in the statement.
We hope that our free pretzels (and the wonderful portfolio of free snacks on longer flights), served along with our legendary Southwest Hospitality, will please customers who might be nostalgic or sad to see peanuts go, the company added.
Our ultimate goal is to create an environment where all customersincluding those with peanut-related allergiesfeel safe and welcome on every Southwest flight.
The airline currently serves other free snacks, including various chips and cookies. Southwest said the airline would still permit individuals with a peanut allergy to board aircrafts in advance so they may clean seats and trays. Travels with the allergy should continue to disclose it when purchasing flights, Southwest said.

You want to pay attention when Robert Kennedy, Jr., talks about this. He has a handle on it; knows his stuff. He’ll give it to you straight - numbers of inoculations/frequency/ingredients etc. Trump had named him to be involved with something along that line in his administration but I haven’t heard anything more about it.
Showing some extra appreciation never hurts.
Damn airlines not giving a hoot about those of us on low carb or salt free diets. /S
“These pretzels don’t even make me thirty!”
My daughter has allergic reactions to cucumbers. My other daughter thought she would call her on that BS. She rubbed her sisters drinking glass with cucumbers.
By the end of dinner daughter #1 looked like she got punched in the lip.
Weird allergies are out there. I dont know where they come from...but they are real.
(Yes, my younger daughter was punished pretty severely for her actions.)
Parents driving their kids to school was unheard of and most of us walked, often a mile or more. I'm not even sure why we needed phys ed considering our active lifestyle, but we had it anyway. We also had wood shop and metal shop, required in junior high with advanced offerings available by high school. Everyone was not expected to go to college and learning a trade was considered a perfectly acceptable alternative. Some of us (like me) were greedy and wanted to do both. So even though I ended up going to college, I got part time work which paid better than minimum wage with my trade training.
Your observation is interesting. I have a child with severe peanut allergy who also has mild autism. What’s causing this nobody knows, but it’s nearing epidemic proportions. These people don’t just break out in hives; they can drop dead on the spot.
Maybe so, but I agree: Considering how life threatening peanut allergies can be to someone sensitive, its probably a good idea to not hand them out in a confined place with no access, or no quick access, to emergency medical care.
Sudafed won’t help with an allergic reaction.
That’s simply a decongestant.
You need Benadryl.
A friend whose son is SEVERELY, life threateningly allergic to the slightest trace of nuts, told me that she carried a bottle of the children’s liquid cause that’s what got into your system the fastest.
Aside from carrying multiple Epi-Pens.
That very well could be. They are in the same plant family.
Soy is not good for you in a number of ways.
When I was in elementary school (way back in early 1970s), my mother packed peanut butter sandwiches in a Partridge Family lunchbox, usually with a Twinkie or a banana (both were considered healthy back then) and a thermos full of whole milk.
Never heard of a peanut allergy back then.
I have no idea what happened since. I don't deny that people have peanut allergies but what changed? This was never a problem back then.
LOL....my big sis had the same lunchbox and we took same lunch as you, pretty much. Only I preferred Little Debbies :-)
And, I also don’t recall ANY classmates having peanut allergies.
There's also this.....
What is MCAD (Mast Cell Activation Disease)

The immune system is complex beyond anything we can imagine and it is surprising how easily and fast it can malfunction.
Never, in my 12 years of public school, was I ever driven in. I walked in all kinds of weather. I also had a morning paper route since I was 12 so I was up at 5am every day so I could get the papers delivered before school started.
I think the immunity thing has a lot to do with it. You have to be exposed to germs to keep your immune system running at peak performance. I never used those "hand wipes" that are now all over the place. I take a hot shower every morning but that's about it. I'm just not a hand washing freak. I rarely get sick and most I ever had was the flu. Over 50 years old and never had to spend so much of a night in the hospital.
Our long national nightmare is over.
As for my letter to Reuben Kincaid, do you know what the response was? A 6x9 glossy photo of David Cassidy and an invitation to join the Partridge Family fan club. Yuck!
