Historically, at least in the 20th and 21st centuries, very few presidential candidates, who lost a general election, ever ran for president again.
Candidates can lose out in the primaries and run again, but if you have received the nomination for the general election, there seems an unwritten rule that you are not considered a serious candidate ever again.
It happens in both parties. Ask people such as Mike Dukakis, Al Gore, John Kerry, Bob Dole, John McCain, Walter Mondale. There was never any groundswell for any of them to run again. Hillary is in this category. I’m sure Democrats want to look to the future. Hillary is the past.
adlai stevenson!
That’s more true from the 1970s on, but the first nearly seventy years of the century saw William Jennings Bryant, Alai Stevenson, and Richard Nixon receiving their party’s nomination after a losing bid. These three individuals were their party’s nominee in 7 of the first 18 elections from 1900. If you count 1896, it’s 8 of 19.
But you underestimate the greed of a Clinton. It drives them. It is their “raison d’être”.
She will get their gang together again intimidate and threaten anyone who gets in her way.
Remember, had she won in 2016, she would be running for REELECTION in 2020 now...........................
