All this Hardiman talk could very well be a head feint.
From Townhall

Ok, here’s something:

Source just called w/ two pieces of circumstantial evidence, both strongly pointing to KAVANAUGH. Intriguing data points, but not 100% solid.

Asked another good source by text if he could confirm...”unable.” Other sources have gone dark.

Buzz at the US courthouse in DC: Brett Kavanaugh spotted leaving in a black sedan accompanied by four black SUVs with security agents presumed to be Secret Service, per source.

Also about Barrett.

FYI - current talk from LawyerSmack people is that Barrett's on a plane to DC with her family right now. #ScotusPick

I think Donald Trump is having a lot of fun right now sending the media hyenas scurrying all over the place. Only Donald Trump and maybe one or two others, together with the real nominee know who the chosen one is.

Don't forget what Hardiman did when Gorsuch was appointed:
When Trump chose Gorsuch over Hardiman last year, the Pittsburgh-based conservative took the news with aplomb and played along, taking the media on a wild goose chase. Knowing that reporters were following him, he drove in the direction on Washington, D.C., fueling speculation that he was headed toward a big reveal at the White House. He stopped in Altoona, Pa.
Since this WSJ info came from Hardiman's camp and Hardiman is obviously up for playing games with the media, it's possible you're right.
