I thought they said something really bad! I feel so gyp-ed. I mean gipped, I mean gibbed..
I first read this as "Lezbo Alert" and assumed that was the 'offensive' thing.
My first wife was a gemologist/jeweler/buyer for jewelry stores. They had all kinds of problems with gypsies, nationwide. They were warned to not try to stop them from robbing you since they’d likely kill you. This was 30 years ago.

I remember the term ‘Travelers’ being used in reference to such crimes.

So they welshed on the announcement?
Years ago, on a church retreat a guy got lost in the woods. Below freezing, lots of snow and he was ill equipped. The leader made an announcement and began to describe him. 6 ft tall, bald, red jacket. Finally, I stood up and said “ the black guy. “. Everybody then knew who to look for we found him a couple hours later hypothermia but otherwise ok.
This is the same. Gypsy crimes is a perfect description.
These actually sound more like Irish Travelers than Gypsies. Gypsies won’t work that hard to steal. Irish Travelers will put a lot of work into their scams.
WHITE pick up truck? The horror! The horror.
OMG, heads should roll in the PC court.
At least it wasn’t Irish Gypsys.
True story. My cousin was a caterer in Baltimore and one day a gypsy group wanted him to do the food for a major wedding.
He said OK upon two conditions. They paid in full up front, and that all the silverware etc had to be counted and accounted for before they could leave. He later said that he’d never do it again.
THe other true story is that a Gypsy group matriarch got very sick and was taken to a nearby hospital. When the doctor told the male leader what the problem was and that it would involve a major/costly operation, the man waved his hand and about a dozen women came over. Then they pulled hundred dollar bills out of their bras until the estimated bill was paid. She survived.
The last story I heard, which I cannot vouch for, was that in order to snatch & grab items from a store, one woman would come in, lift up her skirt to her head (not wearing any underwear), and distract everyone while the others grabs items and fled. They didn’t have surveillance cameras of Iphones back in those days so this is still an urban myth.
One thing that is little known about the gypsies of Europe (i.e. mainly the Roma and one other grouping), was that they were terribly persecuted by the Germans/Nazis and killed in large numbers in concentration camps. They suffered from a smaller “Holocaust/genocide” that must not be forgotten, no matter who they were.
I remember when Gypsys used to come through here all the time back in the 1960s. Most who stayed used to have a “septic tank cleaning service”.
They do have the tackiest weddings ever!
We watched a couple of episodes of My Gypsy Wedding - unbelievable what these folks do.
Can’t offend the three people in Mt. Lebanon who have some degree of Romani heritage now, can we?
