I think pistol caliber rifles are cool, and I'm leaning towards the Henry Big Boy Carbine. Anyone have experience with it, or other .357 rifles/
One of my favorite subjects! I’ve got a Marlin 357 a Winchester, Rossi and a Taurus Thunderbolt. The Taurus is by far my favorite but it also took the most work to make it shoot-able. I was faster with it than my lever guns in CAS competition.
Sighting information
For .357 Mag. Lever Action.
Thanks!
Mechanically and quality of finish make me answer MARLIN. Hands down superior.
I gunsmithed for decades and had my own shop. No other lever action produced today is close. None.
For me its got to load from the side and eject from the side. These two guns , .357 pistol and rifle, are my grab and go guns. I have a 98 round badoleer to go with them. As a good buddy observed if the feces hits the rotating oscillator and you go walking down the road with your full tacticool AR and military best with mag pockets everywhere you become an automatic target. If you go walking down the road with your cowboy pistol and rifle you get a smile and arent taken overly serious. Just as effective without the bling. Just one persons opinion
Nope. Guess old Afterguard jumped the shark on this one. He stands corrected. Thank you!
Among my lever guns, I do have a Henry Steel Big Boy carbine in 357/38. I have it with the large loop as I often shoot in the cold with gloves on. I like the Steel Boy - I like the look and I feel its a little sturdier/tougher than the Golden Boy. Like others have said, get the older Marlins. My sons have some of the newer ones - not a fan.
My vote would be for the Henry steel version carbine. The brass octagon is way to heavy imo; a buddy has one and I have shot it. After shooting his I bought the steel carbine version with the bigger loop lever. It is a great little handy carbine and tons of fun to shoot. Got it in November 17 and killed three does using Federal 180g loading the Swift Aframe bullet. 3 shots 3 kills from 50-70 yards. I have a Vortex venom red dot on it to keep it handy. The front tube loading is ok...just a bit different than traditional loading gate at the receiver...
A used Marlin 1894C made in New Haven. Not a post-Remington Remlin.
7-08, 444, 7 Int. (300 savage case necked down to 7mm), 308 full length, 7 Int.-R (30-30 or .375 Win. case necked to 7 mm), Etc.
All nice pistol rounds in the right pistols!
No worries. Im certainly guilty of that myself.
Pricey, but Browning M92. Fantastic
I have a rossi/puma/legacy sports whatever 1892 model in 44
Easy to handle and shoots straight
From what i understand the 1892s made in brazil are made on the original winchester 1892 tooling
I really like my Rossi 92. It took some work to slick it up, but it’s really nice now. I took all the springs down at least one coil.
Henry without a doubt. They are works of art!
Get a lever action Winchester model 1973 or Uberti chambered in .357 sweet shooting rifle!
Just checked My lever action..
Winchester 94AE.
It has a safety.
.357 is a flat shooter.
I have a Marlin 1894CS 357 that I bought in 1989. Great companion to my Ruger GP100.
“Theres always 30 Carbine”
I have an Automag III to go with my M1 Carbine.
I have a Rossi like that - it’s really too small and light to be comfortable with the .357 rounds but is fun with the 38 Special rounds - not sure I would do it again as it is really a “niche” gun w/o any true purpose - not a good choice for hunting, but if one is riding the range and there’s lots of coyotes around it might be useful by being adequate and not cumbersome....
