That was my first thought. Whether a hoax or not, it’s a shame that that would be my first thought but there have been too many over time not to have that thought enter our minds.

I have no doubt there are still racists in America. I have no doubt they would love to intimidate and scare minorities wherever they encounter them.
I have a great deal of doubt that any one of them is stalking upscale Florida hotels, evading surveillance cameras, and using these ninja-like skills to break into hotel rooms, not to steal or physically harm minorities, but to place small post it notes on bathroom mirrors while their targets eat breakfast. They also have to be doing this anticipating that the immense amount of risk undertaken will be worth it and not undermined by the housekeeping staff doing routine cleanup.
The hotel should be able to produce records of surveillance footage, at least from the elevators, and also the door lock activation times to narrow down a possible culprit. If it was a guest or member of the staff, that information should be evident to law enforcement shortly.
If it was all a hoax, some sort of defrauding scam or prank, that should also be evident shortly. If it was some sort of crime, it should be prosecuted vigorously. If it was a hoax or prank, it should similarly be pursued vigorously as a corporation’s reputation in the hospitality industry is very fragile, and any scandal can result in millions of dollars lost in these incendiary times.
